“There’s nobody coming to save us” - Bucs slogan for 2026
We're still only one game out of first place.
Love that one
Bowles really leaning into the fact that he loves him some NFCS action!
The funny thing about this is that all he has to say is:
Our play is unacceptable. This is on me as a head coach. We are going to continue to compete because we believe when we execute we are a very good team. We are one game out of first place but we're gonna scrap and claw like we are 3-4 games out. Expect better play and execution from us. Expect high effort. I take full ownership.
But nope he just low testosterone mumbles about being 1 game out... Fucking pathetic that he hasn't been coached up on this shit.
Maybe Baker sucks because the o-lie sucks more...no time to set up...no time for receivers to get downfield....not a Baker apologist, just stating the obvious
clearly it's not all on Baker....but he's also not as good as we originally thought circa 2023, 2024 seasons.
we can blame play calling all we want, but he's holding onto the ball too long and missing receivers as well
He regressed. there is no denying that.
He has regressed since we moved away from Coen who understands skillset.
Robinson can get people open deep and he just coaches as if he has a top 5 QB and not a QB who needs the system to match his skill set and need to find rhythm early in the game with easy passes.
Baker is a streak shooter. He needs a couple easy ones. He needs to see the ball go in the hoop.
Nothing is being schemed WIDE OPEN. Separation at times is schemed open but go watch the Bears run WRs up the c gap and confuse defenses. Look at the screens they run. They don't chuck it deep a lot, they move the chains. The run game sets up the pass game. Elite play calling just like Coen.
Baker needs that. He's simply not good enough otherwise.
Thank God our genius GM figured that out and locked in a generational coach instead of extending a geriatric low T loser.
Oh wait...

This.
Particularly the parts in bold
I know the thread is about Mayfield, but one thing that is really concerning about Robinson is the idea that he is jsut searching. WE came out and threw excessively behind the line in game 1. In Game 2 we go deep. In game 3 we go 13 for the first time.
Its like he's trying to figure out what might work, but not doing it in the pre-season or in the game, but rather game by game lol

Case Keenum looked like Peyton Manning with Ben Johnson
Trevor Lawrence looking like one of the best QBs in the league with Liam Coen
so again, goes to the point, our next head coach better be an offensive minded guru think Klint Kubiak this past coaching search and Ben Johnson for the last one. They need this to fix baker. Otherwise we are stuck with a Geno Smith type QB with a top 5 QB contract.

What do you mean "stuck with?" If we hire a new coach (2027) and keep Mayfield he's either succeeding for another contract or playing out this one through 2028? so two years? Again its not like the Bucs signed Mayfield to a $280 fully guaranteed 5 year deal. They signed him to more of a market rate compromise contract (even more so as new QB contracts start coming) with an option.
Use your own example of Trevor Lawrence. He was dog shit with $275/$200 guaranteed over 5 years so they were "stuck" with him. I still dont think hes that great but its working out okay.
As an aside, you say "top 5 contract" but is that really true? What did they fully guarantee? Its not really that right? Dont you agree with was a compromise deal? Team has an option at the end?

Bingo
Pony run package too much then no pony package

Now that we have a Geno Smith type QB under contract, doesn't that make us less desirable? Think about it. Even dating back to last off-season. Mayfield just played terribly as well as the rest of the team quitting. The Ceiling of the team was 10 wins. Klint Kubiak can choose between a team with the #1 overall pick (top QB prospect) or he can choose a team with a journeyman QB who just had his worst season in recent memory. He's choosing the Raiders. So fast forward to next year when whoever the top candidate is. He can choose a team like the Jets who have no QB (ironically Geno Smith) and 3 first round picks or he can choose the Bucs who are committed to Mayfield in the candidates first year. The Jets it is!
so right off the bat, the Mayfield extension and his subsequent poor play already made us a less desirable destination where having no QB and letting the candidate choose would have been better off, particularly with a top pick.
Most first time head coaches last what? 1, 2, 3 years? So you are saying we are stuck with Baker for 2 more years. That's not a great outlook for a new head coach.
So...yes if the Bucs can get....call it Liam Coen or Klint Kubiak type to coach the Bucs, i feel alot better that Baker can turn it around.....but just saying, we may not be the first or second or third choice given the handcuff to Baker
