No betrayal. It's probably good for all parties. Evans gets to mentally refresh and start anew after a disappointing season - something that wouldn't be possible if he stayed here. The Bucs don't have an injury prone aging star who will be lucky to play half the season on the books. So we'll look back in a couple years and have a sigh of relief that he moved on.He joined a better team but he didnt seem to care the previous 2 extensions
It's almost like he knows his playing time is running out, and this team is going nowhere near a Superbowl.
He doesn't owe the organization his allegiance for his entire playing career. He was a Free Agent. He gets to choose where he plays. There was no betrayal of anything. The "betrayal" thing is a little emo, honestly.

and they thought my betrayal comment was harsh 😂

haha both are harsh. I dont see Evans leaving as a betrayal, far from it. He deserves to do what he wants.
I am not sure that I would describe it as Trask does above but he is describing a win for both sides and that is certainly possible. Evans just needs a little good luck with the hamstrings and he's going to have a good year (great OC, good QB).
The Bucs can also have a good year without Evans, especially if 2026 was going to see him have the same limited availability as 2025. Time for a young star or stars to emerge or maybe a healthy Godwin. Recall that Godwin was the focal point of the passing game and on a record-setting pace before his injury
Evans getting a little good and some billboard material in the Athletic's discussion with FO types about the 49ers free agents:
The 49ers recently declared their practice facility safe, citing a study they commissioned to determine whether a nearby electrical substation was causing injuries.
“Everyone starts talking about the substation and, ‘Why are we always hurt?’” an exec said. “It’s because you sign hurt players. Mike Evans is going to miss 4-6 games this year, Dre Greenlaw is going to miss eight and you are going to wonder why your players are always hurt.”
Evans and Greenlaw, the 49ers’ most expensive additions in free agency, each missed nine of 17 games last season.
“A one-year deal for $14 million, that is low risk (on Evans),” another exec said. “It gives them a big body. You get a vet in that locker room at that position. I do not mind it for a one-year rental.”
There were conflicting opinions over just how much Evans would help the offense.
“They are going for it, man,” another exec said. “The red zone production is going to go up even more. Now you have the backside X that can win one-on-one.”
A different exec challenged what he heard from a national analyst suggesting Evans would help create space and stretch the field.
“This guy runs 19 mph,” this exec said. “He is a back-shoulder, possession X, which has not been Brock Purdy’s game, and he’s not going to run in the middle of the field like Jauan Jennings did on those bang 8s (skinny posts) and daggers and the deep-ins, catching it on the go and being a run-after-catch guy.”

missing 4-6 games is a bit extreme, id likely pencil in 3 as a safe bet
i'll also take the under on 1,000 yards.

who is to say but I think the person who said 4-6 is just going off Evans missing 3 or 4 in 2024 and then 8 (9?) in 2025.
To be fair to Evans he had contact injuries in 2025, so maybe with just the usual hamstrings 2025 is only a 3 or 4 games out season.
I get the point about him not being as fast as he was because you can see that on the field, but he's much more than the one dimensional X description provided by some executive. That should be clear for 2024 where he got to a 1000 yards by stepping into routes that were more typically Godwin's role.
“Lavonte will be the harder one to replace,” Arians said, comparing David to Evans.

idk about that
I see where his head is at with Bucs haven’t more talent at WR than LB; but Evans is a game changer and still showed he could be (atl game) where LVD was gobbled up by father time

Yes agree. LVD has not been LVD for a season or two.
On Evans this is one take on the 49ers getting an A- for the Evans signing
"
Evans, 32, is coming off an injury-shortened season,” Walder wrote, noting it was the first year Evans failed to reach 1,000 yards receiving, as well as Evans’ yards per route, which declined from 2.6 in 2024 to 1.8 in 2025.
Here’s the counter: if you’re going to bet on a player having an injury-shortened down year rather than a cliff, a one-year deal is exactly how you make that bet. The 49ers aren’t locked in past 2026. If Evans plays eight games again, they move on. If he’s the Evans of 2024, then this offense with Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and a healthy Ricky Pearsall developing behind him is genuinely dangerous.
The A-minus feels right. The risk is real, but the structure of the deal prices it in correctly.

What is extreme about it???

What is extreme about it???
The fact that he has only missed that time once in his career
for sure is pencil in 2-3 games for hamstring injury but a third of the season like a forgone conclusion? Yeah

Fair
Evans speaks
"“I’m trying to prove people wrong and prove myself right,” Evans said, noting his lifelong competitive fire. “So that’s what this is about."
"I’ve been looking at that franchise (49ers) for a long time. And obviously it was going to be hard for me to leave Tampa, but I’m super-excited to come out there and this is what I feel like I needed at this point in my career.”
"Playing for the 49ers “just made the most sense, man,” Evans said, adding that another reason he signed with San Francisco “is to help me get where I want to go post-career.”

this is telling...like i suggested before...he is concerned with life after football and building a brand.
