Man,
Talk about going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. Jason Licht had an opportunity for a historic draft and just blew it. Why does he continue to draft guys above their value? I'm okay with some of these picks if they were in the lower rounds, but JL just has to waste pick after pick by picking guys a round or two too early. It's absolutely mind-boggling.
1. Bain (EDGE) - A steal in the 1st round. Any GM would have picked Bain here.
2. Trotter (LB) - A round too early. Not worth a 2nd round pick. Should have traded up for J-Rod who will be a perennial pro-bowler.
3. Hurst (WR) - A project that will take time to develope. Not worth a 3rd round pick and was a round too early. This could possibly change as the guy does have potential.
4. Keionte Scott (DB) - Actually a good pick here. Should contribute immediately.
5. DeMonte Capehart (DT) - Who? This guy should have been an undrafted free agent. Definitely drafted too high here.
5. Billy Schrauth (G) - Who knows what we are getting here. If he's completely recovered from past injuries he will be a valuable back-up. Risky
6. Bauer Sharp (TE) - Are you kidding me? Trading up to draft this guy who may not have been drafted at all is a joke. I actually do like him, but again, a round too early.
Not a bad draft, but could have been soooo much better. Another year of reaching for talent that doesn't fit the round they were drafted. Also, we did not fill our needs enough at CB and G. Capehart should have been replaced by a CB IMO and Trotter by a G if we weren't going to trade up for J-Rod.
If you are ok with the guys we chose, who cares what round it happened in? And if we traded up to get Rodriguez, it probably takes our 4th to do that, so there goes Scott off our team.
I'm pretty happy with this draft. If you told me a week ago we were gonna come away with this haul I'd have been thrilled.
I'm not okay with the value because we could have gotten better players in the spots we picked. I don't like the Trotter or Capehart pick at all.If you are ok with the guys we chose, who cares what round it happened in? Should have traded up for J-Rod who will be a perennial pro-bowler.
How do you know they didn't try?
This is what makes the draft criticism so iffy. Jason Licht "blew it" because he didn't trade up to get the LB you wanted, but maybe they tried? And, as the other poster points out, what about the picks they would have traded?
Interesting because the only player that does not fit value wise is really Trotter and not by much because he was projected to be a late 2nd/early third rounder. All the other picks for the Bucs were based on value.

he got some value in Bain Jr and Scott, added a big tall WR that we were now lacking, and additional need at ILB.
After first 4 rounds, hard to care about guys that likely will only "seat fill" for a year or two anyway tops
I thought we could have done much worse, like taking a Tight end in the first round, maybe drafting a QB in the third, etc.
Ultimately we wont know how the draft was until these guys play, but overall i am happy with the positions at least drafted.
I actually think the Ted Hurst pick was excellent. Sure he may need some time to get to a starting role, but if can contribute to redzone/short yardage role player - he’s an upgrade at X - as Mike Evans departure obviously takes a big weapon away from Baker. Getting him up to speed will take time - but putting him in a situational role immediately can be a big help in keeping this offense elite - and Hiratbwas worth the pick.
regarding Capehart: you should look into Gina but more. He can immediately provide rotational run-stopping ability, but the dude helps us get bigger in the middle and has the athleticism to possibly offer a future back-stop/breather to Vita Vea. Well worth the 5th rounder at a position of need.
6. Bauer Sharp (TE) - Are you kidding me? Trading up to draft this guy who may not have been drafted at all is a joke. I actually do like him, but again, a round too early.
saw a report that said the Bucs original late round TE target was Joly. Not sure about that
Sharp has athletic traits that are hard to come by that late in the draft. It is going to be a battle between Sharp, Culp and Kieft. I wouldn't say it is a slam dunk that Kieft sticks because this is a new approach on offense and special teams.
Need? BPA? Value? Bowles?
1. Bain (EDGE) - BPA at a big position of NEED and a fit for the Bowles' stated defensive plan
2. Trotter (LB) - NEED specific to Bowles stated defensive plan
3. Hurst (WR) - NEED
4. Keionte Scott (DB) - VALUE (maybe BPA?) and a perfect fit for Bowles defense and specific plan
5. DeMonte Capehart (DT) - depth NEED and consistent with Bowles' defensive plan
5. Billy Schrauth (G) - VALUE/NEED
6. Bauer Sharp (TE) - NEED . . longshot, but 12 personnel so . .
I admire your commitment to the pick, All. I really do, but this chump ain't making the team. He is not a good football player regardless of what role anyone wants to paint him as. I would put his chance at less than 10%.Sharp has athletic traits that are hard to come by that late in the draft. It is going to be a battle between Sharp, Culp and Kieft. You could be right, but you find a way to get him IMOShould have traded up for J-Rod who will be a perennial pro-bowler.

There were like 8 TE's rated higher than Sharp at the time we picked him. I like Sharp, but he probably would have gone undrafted or in the 7th round at best. Capehart has like ZERO production in college, he's just a body. A 5th on him is ridiculous.Interesting because the only player that does not fit value wise is really Trotter and not by much because he was projected to be a late 2nd/early third rounder. I have to disagree. I think he's at least better than Kieft, Culp and Durham as he is more athletic. We'll have to wait and see how good of a football player he is.I admire your commitment to the pick, All. I really do, but this chump ain't making the team. This is probably right
One thing going for him is the room is not that great. Culp is an oversized WR who has a couple catches in 2 years. Durham maybe 10-12 over the same period. Kieft, basically an H-back blocker.
