If you get him a new offensive coaching staff + a true wr1 he can perform as a top 10 QB zero doubt in my mind.

Almost undisputed I would hope?

He was top 10 in yards and TDs in 2023 with Canales. (I dont think Bryce Young has bene even close)

Obviously even better with Coen. (Just like Jags QB, best version of himself)

Hell, he's top 10 in Yards and TDs with Grizz in 2025 (Grizz out of OC role now)

He just always going to take a lot of sacks (top 10 every year above) and some times be top 10 in INTs

The thing that made the 2024 Coen season seems so good for Mayfield (even though he actually had a bunch of INTS) was that we played with the lead almost more than any team in the NFL. I think we were third in terms of quarters or maybe time with the lead. Compare that to the CHAOS of 4th and 13 against the Vikings.

Mayfield is best when he is running a balanced offense that does not need him to be a HERO.

In 2024 I think our defense is also bottom 3rd in terms of turnovers, so Mayfield wins with a lead and without necessarily needing the aid of defense giving him repeated short field. That is a playoff QB on many teams,  especially when you consider that he can also win some games on his own like the first 5 games of 2025. The Panthers, Saints and Falcons are better with Mayfield. The Texans are better. He's not Stafford, but hes well above the average starting NFL QB

A running game, a decent OC, and a decent defense and Mayfield is more likely than not like 2023 or 2024. In 2026 we have a run game we dont commit to, a sketchy OC and most importnatly a Mayfield trying to do it all on his own, not playing within the confines of the offense

Didn’t we all think he’d be improved under Robinson? 🤔

Because people thought Robinson was like Coen, right?

Youre saying Robinson IS like Coen ergo Mayfield bad?

People thought the O-Line would be better too, right?

clearly Robinson is not like Coen or Ben Johnson.

Robinson came form same McVay tree as Coen though

Robinson disappointed in Atlanta

And i'm saying Mayfield has been bad....yes.  Doesn't mean he is bad. Would you say Mayfield has been bad this year?

Mayfield has been pretty dang bad and the line hasn't done him any favors in addition to that.

Robinson has created opportunities, especially deep, and that's where Baker has been WAAAAAAY off. His throws deep aren't even close.

He needs to go watch tape of Rusky Wilson. He always threw a great deep ball with air under it. Give your guy a chance to catch it ffs

Baker with Smith is better than any QB option imo.

Baker, new OC, offensive head coach... Smith by some miracle.

If Baker has proven anything, it is still that he is consistently inconsistent. That's just who the dude is.

If the position can be improved upon next draft, the organization needs to take advantage of it.

I don't disagree I'm saying he needs a Coen type coach to be closer to something good/consistent.

He needs a true wr1 he can lob it up to and not 3 #2s

He needs a line that can block

If you get him a new offensive coaching staff + a true wr1 he can perform as a top 10 QB zero doubt in my mind.

Well, there is doubt in my mind that he can be a top 10 QB consistently. I think his career has confirmed that.

It would be a mistake for the team to pass on a QB they really like just because Baker Mayfield is under contract.

Agreed.

And, they wouldn’t have to.

Baker can be a bridge in ‘27 and be gone in ‘28.

And I'm saying I don't a scenario where we get that... Of course I could be wrong but none of these prospects wow me...

All good not great... So in a perfect world we get one that falls to the second and develops for 2 years behind Baker.

so if cap central is right, the dead money in 2028 would be $29M.  That's a pretty tough hit to take so its likely we have him for the next 2 seasons after this train wreck of a season.

i think it's unlikely the Bucs take a QB but i agree with you obviously that Baker doesn't appear to be the answer

We are only 3 games in, so hard to really crystalize next year's draft.  As i said with the Baker contract talks, "Let the season play out.  No one is here to save us.  We can then decide in the off-season"

The Bucs could certainly take a QB in the draft if one was there who was worth it.

that's sort of the point of all of the discussion about what is next. The Bucs already have some key talent and they have Mayfield who is somewhere between a "bridge" and a "franchise" and they should have fit the first time in years a pretty valuable, often franchise altering pick that they can use or trade.

the problem as i see it as that they are not being competitive with Baker.  Small sample size but football is a "what have you done for me lately" league

2023 - they were 4-7 at one point before rallying to go 9-8 and win division.  Arguably their most successful year with Baker as they won a playoff game.  Still, they benefited from a weak division.  Every other NFC division winner won 12 games, wild card Eagles won 11, Rams 10, and Packers 9.  We all would take a year like 2023 versus 2009 through 2019 so nobody complaining at this point and let's build around Baker!

2024 - They were 4-6 at one point but had a top 5 offense with Baker throwing over 40 TDs!  His best season as a pro!  Bucs went 10-7 to win the division but disappointed in first round of playoffs.  Still nobody complaining despite other division winners at 15, 14, and 10 wins.  Other wild cards at 14,12, and 11 wins.   I'll certainly take this over the 2009 to 2019 seasons

2025 - ut oh!  a 6-2 start!  unfortunately they play 17 games.  Bucs finished 2-7 as one of the worst teams in the league back half of the year, just as they were getting healthier too.  Division winner was 8-9 and we still couldn't make playoffs.  Now i ask you, was that 2-7 finish any different than the 2009 to 2019 seasons?  No right?  ugly.

2026 - Could have been the last year but alas we prematurely extended.  How does that 0-3 taste?  My lord does it reek of 2009 to 2019.

For those that still like Baker, you are living in 2023/2024 seasons and it's difficult for your mind to compute just WTF happened.  I'm sure Baker is struggling to understand as well.  But...we just paid him like a top QB that can carry a team and it's turned out to be quite the opposite.

if he's a bridge QB, they could have certainly signed one for less than $55M.
