I know we must move forward, but it hurts to think how close we were to getting Jacob Rodriguez in the 2nd round. I was against drafting him in the first round, but would have been ecstatic getting him in the 2nd.

I keep comparing his film to Trotter’s. The athleticism isn’t even close. J-Rod moves in space so much better. His coverage skills are elite for a MLB. He can run side-to-sideline.

Trotter is a bo LB. He’ll be fine in that spot, but J-Rod can do so much more. Trotter really should play early downs and come out in passing situations.

This had less to do with Trotter and more to do with J-Rod. I’m a fan first and hope for the bests but what could have been… Bain and J-Rod… 1 and 2…

We were never close.

As long as Trotter was on the board, he was their pick (even with J Rod available).

@donkey_hunter - do you think Licht and Bowles would have taken Trotter over J-Rod? I wish it would have come down to that. What a mess that would have been.

the Bowles Dividend.

Bowles suggested he'd be a pro bowl/all pro type player.

Rodriguez is the only sure-fire bust in this draft.

Think Mark Fields who was drafted by the NO Saints ahead of Derrick Brooks.

It’s weird…

Care to bet on that?

Rodriguez confirmed to be in Canton.

Not buying the Rodriguez hype because he has too many missed tackles against inferior collegiate opponents. Against faster and bigger NFL players he needs to do a lot things to prove us wrong.  Plus look at which team he went to which is the Dolphins.

The Dolphins dropped serious cash on Brooks who is a downhill player while Rodriguez is a side line to sideline player.  Dodson is a superior coverage LB at the NFL level so at some point Rodriguez will have to prove he is better than Dodson in coverage or playing downhill like Brooks.  I don't think he can play downhill like Brooks because Brooks was like this even at the collegiate level.  Also Kyle Louis was drafted too who is a coverage LB so really Rodriguez needs to beat out a talented LB room so he isn't going to be handed a job so I will give him that if he is stating at some point as he would have earned it.   I just don't understand why people putting Rodrigueze at a god tier status.

To be honest I think Anthony Hill ends up being better than Trotter or Rodriguez.  I think Hill ends up playing next to Gray but like Rodriguez, Hill will have to beat out a superior pass coverage LB like Barton to earn playing time.

Trotter has to beat out Dennis who has NFL experience and Rozeboom.  Rozeboom who can play in coverage and was a thorn in the side for Mayfield last season and has a better feel for navigating the wash to make a play on the tackle.

I don't think people are putting Rodriguez as "god tier". These are all 2nd round picks.

I think people see Rodriguez as being the most NFL ready player and he has the playing and coverage skills we sorely needed.

Texas Tech isn't coming from the big sky or some shit so I'm not buying this "competition" thing. He played great against the Ducks in the playoffs. He played great vs BYU etc.

I always come back to "nothing is good or bad except by comparison". Rodriguez compared to Trotter or Hill.

Trotter is well below those 2 and Allen for me. I don't like having liabilities on coverage. I don't like 1 dimensional players because it tips your hand.

Trotter will need to learn to cover.

Rodriguez will not because as a former quarterback he can diagnose and react quicker than Trotter.

How do you gage success for a linebacker.  I’ll tell you.  Does the linebacker rarely miss tackles, does he stay in position, and most importantly, does the linebacker command the defense to make plays (TFL, Force Fumbles, INTS, Fumble recovery) by assuring everyone is in the right coverage formation.

Trotter is better than Rodriguez with all of this.

Lol wut? Based on what.

Which defense was better? Texas Tech was the best defense in the country. Rodriguez was so good he was part of the Heisman.

This is all just your opinion backed by zero facts
