Well, I guess this is good news. I truly like David. Not as much as Brooks or Evans, but I would be happy if he retires a Buccaneer. I could also see him being on the team next season is more of a platoon role. Though I do wonder how much his knee affected his play.
I think he's said that at least since the end of the last season
If he wants to player coach + 15 snaps a game, sure
That's not news. His agent seems to think he can still play because he had his knee cleaned up. I'm guessing the Bucs will bring him back. Whether he was slowed by a knee injury - maybe he was. But I'm still very dubious that he has anything left in the tank. Sometimes somebody has to tell a guy he's done when he doesn't want to hear it, but the player freindly linebacker desperate Bucs don't have the stones to do that.
So expect David back, but don't expect that it will end well.
David is washed.
DE - Need to replace Hall
DT - Vea (ok but getting older)
DE - If you listen closely, you can hear Kancey getting hurt right now
So we could use 2 impact players on the rotation here.
Edge - Yaya
ILB - Alex Anzalone
ILB - Open
Edge - Open
To me, let David retire, ok if he wants to come back but we need 2 impact players here
i think the secondary is relatively fine, but give me 4 high level guys in the front 7 please
looks like Licht's plan to address some of those through the draft, but i sure hope we get a Veteran edge guy for the love of god
I'm fine with LVD coming back but they still need to add a guy in the draft.
I believe Derrick Brooks even sat around for a year waiting for any team to call. None did. He retired.
Greatest Bucs in my view.
Its not easy to retire.
With Bowles here LVD is more likely than not to play, but the Bucs cannot possibly rely on him like they did prime LVD.

I agree, David is washed as a starter. With the knee issue, though, he might be a good depth guy that can be part of the rotation. Particularly, if the Buccaneers are forced to draft an ILB.
With Vea, I worry about the fact that he never really makes impact game changing plays. He is solid inside, and I don't think he commits game-changing screw-ups. The Buccaneers need a player on defense that has some fire and can make splash plays on situations like 3rd and 28.
Edge. I am not sure I trust Bowles to develop an Edge rusher. He has not been able to get guys to marginal, much less impactful.
Vea has pressures and sacks to go along with TFL. He still very good and does make an impact, but has become underrated now. If you put a legit 3 tech with size next to Vea he instantly becomes better. Vea and Diaby just need help up front.
Lets see what Licht can cook.

He is the 5th or 6th highest cap value on the team. So thats part of the tough questions facing the Bucs with aging vets. They just cleared Evans, LVD for sure. They are not going to rework Vea's deal, right? He's 31 and on his last year or two of that contract? His position is such that they could probably have a much less expensive person in the role.
So, as much as they have obviously been focused on getting rid of dead cap money for several years they also have a bit of a transition still underway.
LVD was 65th out of 88 for ILB in the NFL
Dude is washed. Licht is washed. Bowles is washed. Take the under on W's
The thing with those grades is that he was very productive with splash plays last season. He is definitely no longer a top 25 LB but based on what he did last season he was definitely better than 65th ranked.
I wouldn't be surprised if LVD is back if the Bucs FO have graded him as a top 50 LB.
I love LVD. Almost as much as Brooks. However, he was both old and slow last season. I get the loyalty factor but I really wish he would hang it up. He turned into a liability last season and when that happens, game over.
