Browns tight end Dae’Quan Wright is poised to do something that once would have been unthinkable: Leave the NFL and go play in the NCAA.

The Browns are waiving Wright, and he has an agreement in place to play for LSU this season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. It’s possible that Wright could get claimed on waivers, which would complicate matters, although it sounds like Wright has decided he wants to play this year for LSU, where he surely has a lucrative NIL offer in place, and wait until next year to pursue the NFL.

So fucking stupid

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/49715699/lsu-lane-kiffin-defends-pursuit-nfl-players-returning-college

So many things that make my blood boil.

First off, Kiffin is a tool. His rationale is comical.

Second, our judicial system is a joke. Judges, who I assume are fans of these teams, are overruling the NCAA and granting 5th years to grown ass men that have spent an offseason training with the next level of coaches... Offering an obvious unique advantage in physical and mental preparation to go with their obvious age advantage.

Like, what the fuck are we doing? Can a 30 year old QB playing in the CFL who has one year of eligibility left go back to college and play? Where does it end?

What an absolute fucking joke

LSU is doing it in basketball too. Just gotta get some judge in the state to intercede and boom, you override the rules.

Most people I know wanted college athletes to be paid.

And those people were wrong, as they could not foresee these unintended consequences that are currently happening.

Kiffin -

“At the end of the day, because of these rulings, they’re either going to play for you or they’re going to play for someone else around the country,” LSU coach Lane Kiffin told reporters on Monday, via Max Olson of ESPN. “So we’ve made the decision to recruit them like probably most people are.”

Freeman -

“I don’t think it would put a person in a good situation this late … to have success in the classroom and on the field,” Freeman said. “That’s kind of been [Notre Dame's] stance with it. When these rulings start being approved, for us, our admissions has already done their admissions and cycles.

“You’re not going to set that person up to have success. That’s where the university and the athletic program stand right now.”

I think it was meant to be, at least in what I wanted, something like 50k/year for likeness rights plus room/board/transportation etc.

In hindsight I was probably naive but the thing is... They were already getting paid by programs like Saban/Bama... So it leveled the playing field which ended the SEC dominance.

So that was good for the sport but this has clearly gone too far.

Well it has nothing to do with academics... Kiffin just wants super seniors.

These players should not get this many years of eligibility even if they didn't go pro then come back

Big Ten reportedly will bar NFL players from conference schools

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/big-ten-reportedly-will-bar-nfl-players-from-conference-schools

Good on the Big 10. All the other conferences should follow suit and "lock" these bums out. Ridiculous.

“An SEC institution is not permitted to have an athlete on its roster who has: (1) previously declared for the NFL, NBA, or WNBA raft, and did not appropriately withdraw; (2) signed a contract with an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) team; or (3) been listed on an NFL (or other professional football league), NBA/G-League, or WNBA (or affiliate) roster. The Commissioner is authorized to enforce this expectation with penalties against member institutions.”

uh . . .

CBS Sports reports that “Kiffin and the Tigers reached out to multiple players on NFL rosters or their representation in an effort to get them to bring a lawsuit against the NCAA and return to school.” CBS Sports also reports that LSU has “had conversations with others who remain in NFL camps ahead of the league’s cut day on Aug. 30.”

It underscores the obsession with acquiring the best collection of players possible. And it puts Kiffin’s justification that “they’re either going to play for you or they’re going to play for someone else” in its proper context.

Based on the CBS Sports report, Kiffin isn’t simply reacting to a development over which he had no controll. Instead, he’s hoping to reap the intended benefit of an outcome he helped engineer.

Yeah of course. And LSU did it for basketball too.

This should force disciplinary action but it won't.

Kiffin is such a fucking sleezeball
