I do see you getting pretty amped up about this subject
did my moving away from the topic give you that impression? LOL
Maybe we can get this thread back on to football
meanwhile
which of these statements is most trueÂ
Badabing, is it always someone else's fault? You brought the topic up, right? and its not the first time, right?Â
oh and you didn't answer which statement was most true. how surprising :)
Maybe we can get this thread back on to football by dispelling a central CRYING point and that is Coen. I am pasting this here because it lays out the "Bucs didnt choose Bowles over Coen" argument succinctly, so what is wrong with it:
"The Bucs were never going to fire Bowles during a playoff run, risking dividing and distracting the team as it entered the playoffs. So, the Bucs would have had to fire Bowles after losing to Washington and immediately tell Coen they wanted him as head coach while simultaneously advising him he’d have to hang out quietly while Rooney Rule interviews were conducted.
Meanwhile, if the Bucs went that route, they would have had to gamble on Coen not be courted by other teams and that the Bucs wouldn’t be outbid.
There is no salary cap for coaches. And, as reality showed, Coen was pursued with big money and personnel power, the latter which may not have been given to Coen in Tampa."
disagree?
they didn’t replace Bowles with Coen because the team was performing better than expectations in 2023 and 2024
I think it was that they didn't replace Bowles with Coen because they had BOTH back. At least that is the point of what I posted and the timing checks.
I dont think the Bucs fire Bowles after the Commanders game WITH Coen coming back as an OC, right? Certainly the Bucs are discussing the "highest paid OC" role with Coen long before its announced. 2024 was a SUCCESFUL season. They were bringing the whole band back!
you don't think Coen made his intentions clear that he wanted to be head coach. Â
On January 7th, the Jaguars requested to interview Coen
On January 12th, the Bucs lose to Washington in their playoff match-up
On January 15th, he interviews with Jacksonville, wanting a new GM clearly as the sticking point.Â
On January 22nd, he withdraws consideration and becomes offensive coordinator, highest paid in league
On January 22nd, the Jaguars fire their GM.
On January 23rd, he becomes Jaguars head coach.Â
I'm not sure what was going through Coen's mind, but looking at the Jaguars success and the Bucs demise....looks like he made the right choice.Â

I'll answer it... Race might have a tiny insignificant factor into ARIANS decision making... But he doesn't make decisions for the Bucs. He consults.
Licht and the Glazers are the ones retaining and extending Bowles.
Race has .000001% of a factor
It's ok to just say "hey my bad maybe I exaggerated this".Â
