We are heading back into the dark days. The days of Morris, Schiano, Smith, Koetter. It's going to be a shitshow for a while. If you weren't with the team before Arians, buckle up. We have ate this shit sandwich before.

Schiano and Morris were not dark days more so that they were trying to find their footing and both went to extreme opposite directions. Smith tried to bring back old school magic but he failed to realize how the NFL changed. Koetter wasn't bad to be honest as a HC more so he just made bad choices at DC that really sunk him. I mean Koetter and Monken were able to scheme up offense and that is what the Glazers wanted. Arians comes in and continues to build offensive prowess but bringing in Bowles gave enough defense to get this team over the hump when you factor in Brady and gang.
So really this team isn't in dark days in my mind if they find a HC that is grounded. Morris had he been more mature may have coached a few more winning or .500 seasons. Schiano would have done better had he adapted to the pro game. Koetter needed a strong DC mind (eg Flores, Evero) to really get him over the hump.
Basically the new HC has to really ramp up this offense and present an NFL average defense and this team will compete week in and week out. Because so far this team isn't being blown out but coaching isn't helping and this Bucs team lacks star powe
We are heading back into the dark days.
The majority knew this years ago.Â
There were only a few retards on these boards that continued to defend the ineptitude.Â
Schiano and Morris were dark days. We fired a Super Bowl winning head coach and someone at least getting us into the playoffs over an idiot (Raheehaw) and then the toes on the line guy (Schiano). Definitely dark days. Smith slept on the sidelines his entire tenure here. Koetter was so good, he never held another head coaching position and promptly retired in 2025.We are heading back into the dark days. The days of Morris, Schiano, Smith, Koetter. All of that to say what you are saying isn't necessarily wrong (I am not saying you are, Alldaway) but the problem lies with the ownership. They have made poor decision after poor decision while striking a couple of lucky strikes with the Gruden SB and the Arians SB. Just a new head coach is not fixing this mess.
I hope I am too, Olaf. I am not convinced I am. Aside from luring Arians here out of coaching retirement and buying the best players we could buy, the Bucs as an organization aren't that much different from what they were before the winning with Arians started. That is why I am convinced they are moving in reverse. Every move the ownership makes supports that. The coronation of Bowles to head coach was just the icing on the cake but to then double down with his dumb ass while letting quality coaches walk and your best offensive player of all-time become disgruntled and leave told me they haven't learned a damned thing since they have owned the team.We are heading back into the dark days. I don't disagree but the flipside is that it can't be all on the Glazers. Had Mark Dominik put his foot down on Morris maybe Morris doesn't go partying and keeps his nose clean and the outcome is different.
Schiano started off hot and then lost his message because he decided he wanted to dismantle the roster to put in place his way. Dominik as a GM should have put his foot down but he let Schiano do so much damage that it was self inflicted. The Revis trade could have been avoided had Dominik had the fortitude to stick to basic principles any GM should excercise.
Koetter and Monken put together some impressive offensive performances despite Winston having issues with ball control. Having access to Brady would have unlocked so much more of the offense for Koetter and Monken in my view. Arians was quicker to realize this and adjusted accordingly.
Licht like Dominik didn't put his foot down when it comes to these coaches.
So the hope is that Licht learned from that dark decade and the next one is a better step forward. We shall see if Licht has learned anything from that.
