back in 2024, the Bucs were 4-6 at one point

JC is proud of you

the point that Baker even at his best is a .500 QB

thus, if he comes back this week, 6-5 at best which would be a 7-10 record.  Maybe a chance at division there but Carolina looking formidable

and before the "Wins aren't a QB statistic" come into play, let's not forget his turnover per game in that 2024 year!

all we have is hope that Baker will turn it around...but until the team puts up 23+ points led by the QB, we are just you guessed.....hoping

we are likely looking at a ceiling of 5 wins to be honest

Praying for 3 tops... I want that early pick

i think very much in play.  I would guess we split division though to get to 4-13.

Dont see us beating Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, or LA.

Does Herbert resemble a starting NFL quarterback by the time they play the Bucs?  One would hope...but that game looking like could be a Bucs W too.

so if you use your "logic" about the 2024 season and the QB owns the team record then why do the Lions have 12 wins with a statistically inferior Goff?

you could say the same about the Ravens

heck you could probably even say that about the 8-9 Bengals. I don't think most put that record on Burrows who may be the best QB (statistically) that year

That's why I said JC would be proud.  You're taking part of Mayfield's best season to define him and even then by the teams record (as opposed his stats) with the supposedly incompetent coach.

to each their own but that is some tired, JC style trolling

I think Glazers will do whatever the cheapest thing to do is. If at the end of the day if there is a logic to them to keep him they will. They kept him after that abomination last season right?

Unfortunately, you can absolutely see a scenario where this happens.

As comical and sad as that sounds.

They've already shown us who they are... Winning is secondary to profit.

That is the problem.

It is basically the same cast from last season minus Evans, Dean and White.  Sure Anzalone, Robinson, Gainwell, and Killebrew have done some positive work but they do really off set the loss of Evans, Dean and White? I am not so sure.

But returning the same cast and throwing in rookies means you are heavily relying on rookies to make this team take that next step.  Sure there is the growth of existing young players drafted in previous years but really it is make or break based on relying on 2026 rookies to fill important voids in the roster like Hurst, Bain, Trotter Jr, Scott.

If a roster requires that many rookies to fill gaps but also push a team "over the top" is that roster really that good or very mediocre or even below average?

Case in point rookie Sharpe comes in and starts to get more playing time over existing TEs.  How does  5th round raw TE come in an steal playing time from an established TE group? Only way that happens if if the current TE group is overrated or substandard.

Yes or Bucs players that move on don't command big $ or even make a splash with their teams. Hall, JTS and Braswell, for example.

sign me up every day of the week and twice on Sunday for 2024 baker mayfield

that’s a top 10 guy

but also, the ceiling is 1 playoff win and then done most likely.

and again, put baker on the eagles that year and eagles winning a superbowl right. (Which they did) but even that baker only had the team at 10 wins so guess that’s a knock on Licht then?

If the Glazers, Licht and Bowles believe Mayfield can carry this team to wins they are straight up delusional.  If they understand that Mayfield can help keep this team competitive if they build the talent around Mayfield then they have something cooking.

We could put you at QB on that eagles team and they are atleast in the nfc champ game :)

EDIT: Darnold won a championship and he was not great last year

so yeah if you want to suggest Licht can get this team stacked, then ok, but outside of 2 years with Brady, the guy has put up perennial losers

So yeah assuming an average talent team, baker ceiling with us is 1 win and out - basically 2023 season

I agree.

Is Licht willing to stack a team like the Lions or Sehawks? He is just content to putz around .500 ball.

May be that I misunderstand your point but mine was that, on the one hand, you say Mayfield is a .500 QB based on a team record while, on the other hand, saying he'd do better with a better team around him (eg on the Eagles).

those two point are obviously at odds with each other, especially if you also think the Bucs team is dragged down by an incompetent head coach and/or defense lmao

He might want the former and we still have the latter because of the Glazers.

it could also be all on Licht and the choice they have made (within the system the owners allow) but I doubt completely that Licht is CONTENT with a .500 team.

No i get it

i guess i look at Hurts who won with Eagles in 2024 and Darnold who won with Seattle in 2025.  They were on stacked teams.  Their cap hits in each of those years was $13M.

I dont know if i'd argue that given Bakers recent play, but certainly back in 2024, i would have ranked him ahead of those 2 quarterbacks.

Bakers cap hit this year is $23M and will be $34M next year.  So with that cap hit, and already a team that's talent is lacking as compared to those 2 teams, yeah we are a .500ish ceiling with him, maybe 10-7, right?

It's a much of a knock on Licht as it is on Baker really.  I think we can all agree, Baker's play needs to improve for us to be a competitive team. He needs to be more consistent as well.  Otherwise, this yo-yoing makes it difficult to assess how close this team is

i think one positive coming out of this disaster of a season is that the defense seems improved but the discouraging thing is what pieces do we have that we can build on next year or year after?  Trotter, Bain,  Parrish, i guess AWJ?

Vea on the way out.  Diaby shouldn't be resigned.  Is Kancey worth mentioning as a building block?  idk.

and the offense is tough to assess.  Good lord, the Knees had our WR core as a top 5 unit, and they may just rank 33rd (we are including Ohio State in the rankings)  But again, tough to assess the offense given we didnt have Baker for 3 games and he was also very sluggish to start the year.

okay I get your point now and agree

I think Mayfield can be a winning WB with a basic (Canales) to good (Corn) offense around him but yes there are huge question marks about where the team goes from here both in terms of coaching and in terms of players

there is a comparison being made to the Bucs and 49ers if in 2027 the Glazers opened their wallets (unlikely) for a coach (if available) that was even close to Shanahan the Bucs could be contenders right away.  That is so unlikely to happen though because the more likely Bucs scenario is build through the draft and get some Mayfield-friendly coach who is below the top tier because most top tier guys wouldn't come here with the combo of existing talent and "cash budget"
