imagine an 11-6 record and a playoff win; maybe he gets some credit
Maybe, but I would not be so sure because many fans are posting in support of their pre-existing belief
The Bucs made the playoffs in 2023 and beat the Eagles . . but the "playoffs didnt mater" and the "Eagles were in collapse." Those kind of posts came often from people who wanted Bowles fired in 2022 . . and 2023 and 2024 . . .
This year is hard to watch because none of these teams are dominant.
If we had kept Coen, and improved the front seven we could have made it even with Bowles limitations.

Yes. They might have needed a little better luck with injuries, but yes I agree.
And I know people will disagree with this but one way the owners might have rationalized keeping him is the point you are making. In fact, one of the ex-Bucs (Booger?) made the point the other day that a HC shouldn't be expected to go 3-0 on offensive coordinators (Canales, Coen . . . Grizzard), suggesting he gets a break with Grizzard because he hit on the other two. The teams problems are deeper than OC and Bowles is part of the problem, but its not a stretch to imagine that Glazers with that line of thinking, ESPECIALLY if Bowles has the backing of Licht (he sure seems to) and of Arians (he sure seems to).
The Glazers, Licht and Arians probably think that with a better OC, better/younger talent on defense and a little better luck with injuries, the Bucs are right there. Not saying I agree, just describing the possible thought process.

i wanted Bowles fired after 2022
i warmed up to him in 2023 and 2024, was actually considered a Bowles Bro; 2025 was an absolute disaster which proved all the Bowles naysayers correctly
in 2026, Bucs would need to make playoffs and with 11 wins or more to show he's a changed coach. Let's say the offense carries them again, defense bottom half of league, and Robinson getting head coaching play; Bucs need to learn from the Coen issue and have Bowles retire himself
absolute disaster which proved all the Bowles naysayers correctly
Not sure about that because coaches are not all good or all bad. They are mostly in between. So Bowles in 2023 is a success, in part because, because of his coaching style and then a probably failure in 2025 for the same reason.
Ultimately, a defensive head coach cant survive with an underperforming defense. I agree that he needs a successful 2026 to keep going. What is successful might be subject to different views
The fundamental problem isn't that the Bucs chose to bypass the hire of Coen because that was the topic of last off season. This off season the Bucs ownership and FO chose to not make changes at HC this off season and also hired an OC who is not even ready to step in as a HC if Bowles decides to retire or is asked to step down the following season. If not hiring Coen was strike 1 then not hiring a new HC this off season is strike 2 and not hiring and OC that can step into the HC role at some point is strike 3.
There is nothing in Robinson's resume that says he can step in and be a HC down the line. That is the problem folks.
If Raheem had hired a competent OC then he is still the Falcons HC.
There is nothing in Robinson's resume that says he can step in and be a HC down the line.
the "heir apparent" is a fan construct though, right? the Bucs never said they were trying to hire a HC-in-waiting for Bowles.
Hell if Bowles gets the team to the playoffs he's probably back again lol
That is the point what are they doing? All they are doing is re-arranging things and claiming things will be different. How? Robinson is on record saying he wants to run the ball more. How does this help this team with this WR talent? And, also the team ran for a combined 1947 yards last season. The Falcons in comparison ran for 2138 total yards and that is with Bijan.
I wonder if the Glazers were fearful of their own mistake in dealing with Coen when they fired Gruden and replaced him with Raheem. They took a pretty good lump with that move and I wonder if it kept them from making the same move with Bowles and Coen. I was never enamored with Canales. I still think he's a midrate HC. I think Coen was something special.
And although Zac Robinson wasn't who I would have preferred as OC, he's here now. And I don't hold anything that happened with the Falcons against him. That team is a personnel trainwreck at some key positions especially at QB but he had that offense playing much better the second half of the season. I want to believe that Zac can come in here and be effective and the Bucs are back to their winning ways. I want to believe that but I just am not sure. Plus, I think as a whole this division gets better next year. I said in another post that I didn't think 10-7 got it done. We shall see.
All they are doing is re-arranging things and claiming things will be different. How?
I may misunderstand but I think I agree with your point. I have said they are engaged in a weird half-measure. Its not like there was some well thought out plan of succession. They basically fired the OC and fired some defensive coaches and they will presumably add defensive talent and get more healthy on offense and there you go.
There was never any earth-shattering change underway

Hell, even without the improved front seven, we'd have won 11+ games this year with Coen at HC (and running the offense).
Would've made the playoffs and then who knows?
But, hey, Todd's a super duper nice guy.
And, he tried really, really, really hard this year. Plus, we're in a tough division.
Lastly, participation trophy's DO MATTER. And, regardless of how the team performs, the real joy and excitement is watching how unique and complex each individual season is. Every season is a new chapter in a story that never ends. Who knows how it's going to play out? That's the awesome part!

No doubt followed by some fake crying about betterment of the boards?
(good grief lol)
Barber's take
"“I’m ok with [Robinson]. I like the offense that he has drawn up and there’s a lot of complexity in the system,” Barber said. “He needs a sharp-minded quarterback that can handle the nuance of this system. You know, Baker can handle this type of system, knowing that it will be Baker’s ninth coordinator in nine years. This is a system I think Baker would love to be able to play in. … To me, there’s so many parts of this offense, a well-oiled machine if you will, players-wise [and] talent-wise on that side of the ball can really thrive in.
“I think Atlanta struggled because the quarterback struggled. Michael Penix in his second year wasn’t quite ready to run this kind of system. They kind of had to dumb it down.”
