The story of Monday night’s 17-14 win, a desperately needed victory for the Bucs, was the defensive and special teams effort to force four turnovers, all in critical moments of a close contest. But with several key plays on defense – and a few Panthers’ blunders – that was more of a collective performance.

It was the offensive side of the ball where it was easy to single out a player. With 101 yards on 30 carries, both career-highs, Jacquizz Rodgers was Tampa Bay’s Pewter Player Monday night. The 5-foot-6 back, starting in place of an injured Doug Martin (hamstring) and Charles Sims (IR), ran tough early and often, looking sharp in his cuts and seeming to always find the open lane. The offensive line deserves a great deal of credit, as well.

The Bucs offensive strategy could be summed up by the opening drive in which Rodgers took 10 carries for 35 yards, ripping off gains of five-nine yards six times. He also delivered on the final possession, catching an eight yard pass on third-and-4 to move the chains and set up the eventual game-winning field goal.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, who knew Rodgers from their time together in Atlanta, said after the game that he had every bit of confidence in his former back to shoulder the load and he was proven correct to think that.

For his performance on Monday Night Football, Rodgers is this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week, and will receive a $50 gift certificate to Just Grillin in Carrollwood.
