In his few minutes at the podium on Wednesday from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Bucs general manager Jason Licht touched on a number of subjects, including running back Ronald Jones who had a disappointing rookie season in 2018.

While it was not what the team or Jones himself expected, Licht said Jones needs – and will get – a confidence boost heading into his second season.

Jones rushed for just 44 yards on 23 carries(1.9 avg.) and a score, and added seven receptions for 44 yards after being selected in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft out of USC.

Of all of the players on the Bucs roster, RoJo is the most confounding. For the life of me, I can’t understand why this kid has not played up to the potential that his tape shows. I also think that PR has not done enough to peel back on the onion on this story. Is it injury? Is it confidence? Is he unable to pick up the scheme? I think you can do better than this, Mark & gents.

Bad OL, bad coaching, needs to work on his receiving skills.

It’s that he never really got a chance… and even when he did, he NEVER had a hole to run into!

E It’s a mix of many things all of which you mentioned plus horrible inconsistent run blocking played a huge role. He also didn’t get enough carries but that was determined also by inability of this O line to run block and a defense that constantly had us playing from behind.

I agree, Fredster… I’m just wondering if there was any issue with RoJo himself. He’s certainly got the skills.

He only 20yrs old and was overwhelmed by the NFL with no blocking. He needs a confidence boost.

This youngsters’ confidence was totally shattered very early on in Training Camp. As a 20 year old, far from home, with no real veteran RB to lean on as a mentor, he started to doubt himself and was thinking instead of playing. With a far different HC, who understands player’s psyche, I’m looking for a big improvement.

Of course Light would say he is confident, he’s the one who selected a RB with very little receiving skills with a second round pick.
Come again?
Despite this, I’m not confident but I am hopeful.
But if Light can’t figure out how to build an offensive line they can put Gale Sayers back there and he still isn’t going to crack 4 yards a carry.

If I remember correctly, Gordon had a horrible rookie year as well for San Diego, then he turned it around the next year in a big way. Maybe it was because of the OC change and scheme. So it quite possible that Rojo may have a similar situation. I hope so! Only time will tell…
