Gerald McCoy joined NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on his RapSheet and Friends podcast Tuesday, and ended his segment with some words about his time in Tampa and the rumors that have swirled since his departure.

“I went to the best team that fits me and I’m going to give everything I have to the Carolina Panthers,” McCoy said. “But I don’t want it to get misconstrued, the respect I have for the Buccaneers organization and how much I appreciate what they’ve done for me.”

  1. Well, say what you will about him but he is a class act and as far as being an outstanding person, he is great at that.

  3. Thanks Mr Gerald McCoy. You were always a polarizing figure as the Jolly Green Giant with the fanbase. However, liked your positive vibe and energy that you brought to the team. I just wanted you to push yourselves further to be an all time great and just a very good player as that was my dream for you. Thank you for the memories though and good luck.

But now the Bucs must face you two times a year and beat you and the Panthers!

  4. He signed with a division rival for peanuts. They are also switching to a 3-4. So his entire statement is bullshit. He tarnished his legacy with this Bush league move.

  6. Lee Roy Selmon picked up guys after he destroyed them and we adored him and called him the “gentle giant”. I don’t get the hate for GMC. I don’t have a problem with giving a guy a hand up as long as you knock him down again. GMC’s problem is he could be himself if he had someone else on the team who was a nasty SOB, but we haven’t had that since the days of Lynch and Sapp on D and Logan Mankins on the OL. Before that we had Hardy Nickerson.Don’t tell me about Kwon. I’m saying they also need to be superstars or the other players won’t follow. I’m hoping the new kid at LB will be a nasty, Ray Lewis style SOB. That will do.
Thanks Gerald McCoy for being a class act, a great player, and an excellent rep for the Tampa Bay area. Good Luck except against Tampa.

  7. I have to be fair to McCoy,we really never gave him much help in the trenches.I think he is much more suited to be one of the guys not the GUY,with that being said we needed to change the whole mentality and makeup of the team. Change will benefit our young guys on Defense.

  8. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out. You were as much a part and the reason for the losing culture as anyone else. Maybe even more so since you were here the longest.

  9. Some people are confused about the different types of BBQ. There’s 4 main styles: Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, and Carolinas. Texas features beef brisket, beef ribs and sausage. Memphis focuses on smoked pork ribs, wet or dry. Kansas City is known for its sauce on BBQ chicken and ribs. Carolinas feature pulled pork and vinegar based sauces.

Hopefully this information makes clicking on this useless article worthwhile and clears up any confusion!

  10. Gerald McCoy – far classier than many of the commenters here at PR. A good man and a very good defensive tackle, and a very good teammate.

  12. Straight up class guys. Thats what GMC is. Many hateful Buc fans who (justifiably) are pissed at us losing consistently..yr after yr lashed out at GMC despite his 6 pro bowls in 8 yrs here. Despite..us not paying much attention to our Defense for about 5 or 6 of his 9 yrs. . He could have lashed back in tirades at fans But..He takes the High road. That even pisses a lot of you off even more. Love that about him. He’s not gonna play your Hate game Mr and Mrs Disgruntled! I truly wish him well. I have this feeling he will do well in Carolina. He’s gone guys. Just hope we start winning so fans will not have to pick another scapegoat next yr. Losing team specialize in scapegoating. Don’t get mad. Because you know its true. GO BUCS.

  20. I don’t know @winstonmvp some of us were raised with the value that if you can’t find something nice to say don’t say anything at all. Then there are “Haters” by definition they can’t help it. McCoy is a class act whether you agree with how he performed on the field or not. Way to Go McCoy!! you’ll be missed

  21. If we picked second, instead of third in the draft that year, he wouldn’t have been a Buc. Somehow we got a do over, and now Suh is a Buc. The universe has righted itself!

  22. Yes, McCoy was a good guy to have around but at 13 million, it was time for a change for everyone involved – team, player, and fans. Don’t wish him I’ll, but will NOT be rooting for him on a division rival. That’s just the way sports go…
