Nick Saban struggled in his time with the Miami Dolphins Kelly so nowhere as talented as Saban please let’s avoid college coaches

Norte Dame is an over rated team, and Kelly is an over rated coach, same with Jim Harbough.

Not sure why somebody would thumb down a two-word harmless statement. I’m sure Licht can learn something from the guy who helped coach up Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey. Maybe Brian Kelly knows a little something about OL performance and OL development that at the very least Licht would glean from.

I’m taking all these reports and/or interviews as misdirection by the Bucs to get media and fans off the scent that Arians was the guy all along, and probably starting weeks ago already. Just a theory of course, not a prediction. As far as college coaches the only one I think is nearly a sure thing to succeed in the NFL is Chris Petersen, head coach of the University of Washington. Brian Kelly strikes me as a slightly better version of Greg Schiano. His in-your-face style and authoritarian ways won’t fly at the NFL level unless/until he has some credibility… Read more »

It takes time for a college coach to get up to speed to these new NFL offenses there’s a learning curve that could take a year or two

Actually, NFL offenses have been learning much more from college spread and RPO offenses than the other way around. Today’s winning offenses in the NFL bear a striking resemblance to what was common a decade ago in the NCAA. In the 2000s, very few NFL teams ran their offenses from the shotgun, or used spread formations, or used RPO.

Nick Saban is a no nonsense in your face type of coach, so is Schiano. How did that work out for Saban in the pros, and Schiano with the Bucs? It would be like the Glazers to try, and make this type of splash hire. It would also be a disaster. They made that mistake once already, let’s hope they’re not fool enough to do it again.

The top coaching candidates have already turned down the Bucs they’re going to start looking at some of the lower teams coordinators here in the next few days then we’ll get the dreaded announcement

How is it that you know the top candidates turned down the Bucs offers? I’ve heard nothing on any site or sports channel. There’s no need to go to the college ranks for a coach. We need a PROVEN head coach to come take control of this team and to get the losing mentality out of here. There’s some decent options. I’d much rather go for an up and coming pro coordinator before I went looking at the college ranks. I’m sold on Arians but I understand that every team has to do their research and interview multiple candidates to… Read more »

We have interviewed and have interviews setup with some of the hottest names so far in Bieniemy, and Richard. Plus Arians said he would be willing to listen as well. No one has turned downed an interview with us. So I really have no clue who you are talking about

Bieniemy is clearly one of the top coaching candidates… while turning down Cards he accepted a Bucs interview. Arians expanded his desirable list from 1 (Browns) to 2 with the Bucs. Not sure who you are defining as top guys… McCarthy? Harbaugh(s)?… but Bucs are far from bottom feeding.

I’m trying my best to shut up until the Bucs say something official. But here’s this from TBT’s Rick Stroud.

However, I’ve run down this Brian Kelly tip past those at the #Bucs with knowledge of the process who indicate Kelly is not someone they plan to interview for the HC job. It’s that time of year folks. And who knows how a search firm works? Or agents.

This is the time of year when successful college coaches lock down big multi year guaranteed contracts using rumors like this. Lincoln Riley already accomplished his mission just today.

I guess anybody that thinks the Bucs have an ownership problem is irrational and delusional maybe it’s just my imagination that they took a Super Bowl team to the bottom of the league maybe it’s just my imagination there’s more fans for the other team in the stands than there are for the Bucs at Raymond James maybe it’s just my imagination this team lost a hell of a lot more games than they won this year maybe it’s just my imagination that the franchise quarterback has won six games in two years and maybe it’s my imagination if I… Read more »

No it’s not your imagination. The TEAM has won 6 games in his 2 last two years. You act like jameis kicks field goals and plays defense. Last weeks game was a microcosm of the bucs since jameis got there. He gets em a leas in the 4th, they blow it. But I’m sure your foolish enough to think jameis shouldve been playing d-
tackle on the falcons last drive. Arians thinks jameis is a good qb, but you in all your delusion think you know more.

Yea that would be a good move. They got destroyed the other night. They never even should have been in that game. That would flop in the NFL just like Chip Kelly. If they dont get Arians, they will get another crap coach.

I greatly admire Brian Kelly. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s gone and every move he’s made, he’s improved the team, often in tough situations. I’ve watched him since his days at Cincinnati. Also, he’s tough and ambitious. Yes, who wouldn’t want a coach who has one losing season (his first as copach) in sixteen years and has never been fired anywhere, a 70 per cent winning record in his career. Instead, let’s just hire another retread.

F no to Kelly! Only acceptable college coach hire, would be Lincoln Riley(got extension from OU), Mike Leach or Chris Petersen.

Let’s get something straight. We once had an owner who let our franchise QB go over about $100,000 dollars! That owner was Culverhouse who turned out to be a douche. That QB was Doug Williams! In my opinion the best QB we have ever had! Now, the Glazers (the boyz) are not my favorites in anyway they have opened their wallets and have been willing to spend $$$! Their problem(s) is that they r not NFL people and the Supposed NFL people they have hired have let them down and mostly have failed miserably. Let’s not get it twisted, while… Read more »

Culverhouse did not manage the franchise in the salary cap era, which did not begin until 1994 who died that year during the preseason. So being cheap on players made sense back in his day, given that there was no salary cap but, thanks to Culverhouse, the NFL owners agreed years before to share all their TV revenues. So Culverhouse got very rich, and the Bucs stayed very bad. Now with the salary cap, which also includes a salary floor, being “cheap” no longer adds much to the bottom line. But being good definitely adds to the bottom line due… Read more »

Please look outside college ranks! We need to get this right this time and don’t want any non proven coordinators or college coaches! Arians, Arians, Arians…if he’s healthy and ready to coach again that is.

A college coach candidate can make sense if he has significant NFL experiences as a player and an assistant coach … but Kelly has none of the above.

This is just silly season talk.

Bob Will

If they pursue this in any manner it just shows they have no interest in winning, that there interest is in the economics of the hire. There are plenty of NFL coaches with NFL talent that if we are talking to a man who is not successful in the NCAA we just don’t want to spend what it takes to get a quality NFL talent. Any of the candidates that we talk about will come to Tampa for the right dollar. Any of them this is a business and it is about the dollars.

Not only No but HELL..NO!!! Please..stay out of the college ranks. Bucs need an experience NFl man who has been there and done it. Like I’ve previously wailed here, I have no confidence in these Glazers. They hired an executive search firm to help them. Not a football knowledgeable guy like a Parcells type who has been there. Nope a search firm,. That tells me a lot about the Glazers and I will NOT..be surprised at who they pick. With our Luck, Kelly will get the job and our continued journey down misery lane keeps spinnin!
