Cook’s Reaction – Rounds 11-15
After taking Kwon Alexander and Batman Woods, I decided to round out my linebackers with one of the meanest and physical linebackers in team history. Former Pitt standout, Hugh Green, was a beast and was a two-time All-Pro – played in two Pro Bowls as a Buccaneer. While none of my linebackers are Hall of Famers, tell me if you want to run through the hole and see any of the three waiting on you?

With my offensive skill positions already in place, this was an all-defensive draft day for me, and next I added three defensive linemen in a row, going with Greg Spires, Chidi Ahanotu and my former co-worker at 98.7 FM, Booger McFarland, before wrapping up my Day 3 selection with safety/cornerback Cedric Brown.

Spires was an unheralded defensive end for the Bucs, but a steady contributor for five season with Tampa Bay, including the Super Bowl year where he notched 47 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble. Lining him up opposite Ahanotu (34.5 sacks, 6th all time in Bucs history), who probably hasn’t gotten the credit he was due on a defense full of superstars, gives me two formidable ends. Plus I paired them with McFarland who contributed 20 sacks in red and pewter during his career.

Brown was one of my favorite players from the creamsicle era. A corner turned safety, I am going to play him at cornerback, as I already have Lynch and my heart set on another safety coming up later in this draft. Plus he scored the only touchdown for the Bucs during the very first game I ever attended in 1981 against the Denver Broncos with a INT return for a touchdown. Even after all these years Brown still is third in team history with 29 interceptions, behind just Ronde Barber and Donnie Abraham.

Notice the biggest trait of my defense so far: Physical. There is no finesse on this defense. Every one of them will line up and hit you. To the whistle, on the whistle and even to the echo of the whistle.
