Cook’s Reaction – Rounds 16-20
As previously mentioned, my offense is already star studded, and I needed to round out my defense so I took Chris “Swaggy” Baker to line up next to Booger McFarland. Where’s the weak link in my defensive front seven? Who wants to try and run against these guys? Especially with my linebacking corps consisting of Hugh Green, Batman Woods, and Kwon Alexander. It just isn’t happening.
What I may lack in star pass rush is easily balanced out with the selection of Brent Grimes (and Cedric Brown on the other side). Amazingly, he was still on the board in the 17th round. Did my two co-workers not pay attention to Grimes who in one season showed even at his age he is a shutdown corner. He gambles a bit, but you don’t have the career Grimes has had without taking a few chances. The good far outweighs the bad. I think Miko would agree.
Reynolds was surprised I took Hawley at center, but as I have shown in my draft, I love gritty, lunch-pail type of guys who aren’t afraid to mix it up, or play dinged up. Nothing against Mayberry or Faine, but who would you rather have your back in a late night bar fight? Mayberry or “Brawley” Hawley? That’s what I want in my center as well. The good news is, he will be lined up next to another guy who I wouldn’t be afraid to have in my corner when the guys next to me spills a beer on my new Vans. J.R. Sweezy doesn’t talk a whole lot, he just goes to work.
My last pick in the final round of the day goes to Mark Cotney. Anyone who watched Cotney play knows he was John Lynch before John Lynch was John Lynch. As a kid growing up playing football in the cow pastures in Keysville, I was always Doug Williams on offense, and Cotney on defense. He would take your head off, then pick it up while still inside your helmet, and throw it across the field. My kind of player, and pretty much the epitome of the makeup of my team so far.
