Not sure if we get better or worse in November, but given the injuries Koetter and staff have done good job overall IMO.

True test coming up schedule gets tough again.

I’m Just thankful to be .500 6 games into the season and not knowing the season is already over and talking about the damn 2017 draft already!

    Go Bucs!

Gary Shelton is the man. I, like everyone else get my sports info on the web. But still remember waking up and going to get a paper. Straight to the sports and straight to Shelton’s column.
    Keep on keepin’ on Gary.

Agreed on the hat tip to Dirk Koetter for his coaching performance this year.

This post, however, doesn’t properly credit Mike Smith, whose defense happened to show up big in both of the last two games, despite the starting roster being riddled with injuries. Imagine how much better we’ll play with both Ayers and McDonald back in the lineup!

The defense truly sucked the first four games of the season, and many Bucs fans here in these pages and elsewhere were complaining loudly about Mike Smith’s coaching. I’ve commented here that even the great all time defenses of Tony Dungy and Monty Kiffin took a little over a half season to gel back in 1996, losing 8 of their first 9 games, and much of that due to allowing way too many points. But then in the back half of their first season, the Bucs went 5-2 and cut their average points allowed nearly in half. It takes awhile for a brand new defense to gel, even with the same players who went on to Hall of Fame careers (Tony inherited Brooks and Sapp, as well as Hardy Nickerson, John Lynch, and Brad Culpepper from the ’95 team, and added Donnie Abraham).

The fact that Mike Smith’s defense has already gelled in just the first 5 games, and despite having several of his best players on the sideline due to injury, I think speaks extremely well of how well he’s coaching our defense.

And yes, Dirk has done great with the offense too, in coaching, gameplanning, and playcalling.

Great article Gary! So glad you joined PR.
I agree with Fredster. So glad to be 3-3 and not looking at the draft already. lol . This season hopefully will at least be interesting the rest of the way and if the Bucs play well enough we’ll have a shot at a Division Title. Woohoo! There’s a light flickering in the distance that hasn’t been there in a long time.
    GO BUCS!!!

We have to win the next two out of three games.

Just logged in to say I’m really enjoying the articles Gary. And let’s hope we finally have a coach who can do in-game & half-time adjustments! In my opinion, more important than a well gameplan’d opening drive… Though would love to see that well executed too! Then we might have a solution for the ‘Boys or the Chiefs this season.

    Go Bucs.
