Though we are a Bucs-centric site, PewterReport.com will be tracking all of the big-name free agents in real time here on this page, because where players go could affect other moves around the league, and could ultimately be players the Bucs face at some point.

Just because you may not see a player’s name on this list right away, that doesn’t mean we won’t be adding them as rumors and reports start to come out about different players with the start of the open negotiating period and the official start of free agency on Wednesday, March 18.

Make sure to refer back to this page to get not only the official signings of the players, but also any well-sourced rumors of where some of the big-name players may be going before it happens. When players are signed, we will update that next to their name with the team and contract details, if known.

  1. Shocking – David Johnson traded for DeAndre Hopkins. How can O’Brien get away with that trade it is so bad?

    Sarcasm below:
Well DeAndre did have a down year last year with only 104 receptions for 1165 yards and 7 Tds.

  2. I guess this means we’re not getting David Johnson unless we offer Houston Mike Evans and our first round pick.

  5. So twspin, are you implying that Arizona got the worst end of Hopkins for Johnson trade? If so, then I suspect you were “Knockin’em down as fast as the bartender can..serve’em up!” LOL

    • Hopkins is OK. But the Texans got a decent RB, a 2nd rder, a 4th and saved some money for a future pick. Placing all your hopes on one player has always been idiotic as out Bucs will soon see..with old man Brady. And yes, I knock down a few without,,ever having had that DUI.

  6. Hopkins has made the last four Pro Bowls in addition to 3x 1st Team All-Pro 2016-2019 & 2nd Team All-Pro 2015. That’s way better than OK. Without a doubt he’s a Top 5 WR. Johnson hasn’t been the same since he got injured.

  8. You’re kidding me right? This is without a doubt the worst trade I’ve seen in a long time. BOB has a stud QB with brittle Fuller as his #1WR now. and when Fuller goes down by week 5 with a hamstring injury, then what? Lol David Johnson can’t even stay on the field. Everyone thought the OLine sucked until Edmonds and Drake were running all over the field on defenses. Oh, maybe it wasn’t the line after all. And if this trade wasn’t bad enough, now add in the fact that the Texans have to take on all of DJ’s 12 MIL salary. For a guy who’s best days are behind him. This is the 3rd RB BOB has traded for in the last calendar year lol (Duke Johnson, Carlos Hyde, now DJ) if this isn’t a bad trade, I don’t know what it is lol

  9. Huge trade. Lopsided. I guess Houston values running backs more than wide receivers. I’m just glad the Bucs didn’t trade for Johnson.

  10. twspin Why trade one of the best receivers in the league for a 2nd and a RB who was 3rd string by the end of the season? Their next best receiver is now a guy who can’t handle a full season. Also, the Bucs aren’t just placing all their hopes on one player. If you’ve been following we’re committed to getting this front seven back together as first priority. We also already have two of the best receivers in the league, plus very good tight ends. I’d say getting a QB is just the last missing piece, that and establishing a run game.

  12. I agree Jon! With or without Brady this Buc’s team is ready to win now. And free agency and draft is yet to come. This team is being put together so that whichever QB is under center they should do fairly well. As an original Buc fan THIS team is setting up to rival some of the best Buc teams ever. A free agent OL and a free agent DB and a successful draft and the Bucs will become a team that other teams no longer write down as an automatic win. It’s going to be a nice blend of youth with some much needed veteran presence!

  18. Mark while the Deandre Hopkins deal was a bad one, the worst trade in NFL history has to be the Cowboys 1990 trade of Hershel Walker. It was bad for the team receiving the trade (Vikings). Jimmy Johnson built the Cowboys from 1-15 to back to back Superbowl championships in 1992 and 1993 and Barry Switzer won the 3rd Superbowl of the 90s in 1995 off that trade.

I realize you are counting the trading team as the factor, but all trades need 2 people to agree. Since minnesota agreed to the trade, that goes down as the worst trade in history imo.

  19. I’ll just say one thing – looking at these price tags it’s clear that in order to win in the NFL you’re going to have to do a better job drafting than we’ve done the past five years.

Can’t keep having to pay a ton for big money free agents to make up for ignoring areas like the lines and/or whiffing on multiple picks for the same position. If Licht doesn’t correct that pronto he’ll be gone.

We do this right and it should be us and the Saints vying for the NFC South title this season.

  24. It’s either Brady or Winston. That has been the plan all along. If Brady goes to LA then the Bucs will sign Jameis to a 2-3 year deal around 20 mil per year.

  25. I honestly believe that Brady could be the signing for us. Once he is signed I think the Bucs grab Love or Herbert in the first. The qb position will have a solid long term plan for years to come, and who better for a young qb to learn from, than Brady and Arians? I like the tackles and Kinlaw, but setting this team up for long term success has more to do with the QB position than any other position on the team.

  26. twspin – stop smoking that crack, or drinkin’ that bad whiskey, or poppin those mysterious pills, cause you’re livin in la la land.

Brady is only the GOAT, coming off a “down” season where he led a 12-4 team, and passed for a mere 4,000 + yards, 24 TDs to just 8 INTs, took his team to the playoffs for what, the 20th straight time (but for the one year he was on IR), and the whole NFL world knows he had nobody to throw to last season. Just one year removed from winning his sixth Super Bowl ring.

My conditions were that if they lost Shaq and brought Jameis back, I couldn’t support the front office anymore. Luckily, they have done everything I could ask for so far.

Even if Brady doesn’t come, the Bucs are serious about winning now.

  35. Alright Spitfire.. I mostly agree with what you said, except that it’d be nice to have Conklin even at $14.3m/yr jic we can’t get one of the Big 4 OT’s in the 1st and miss on Niang in the 2nd. If he even makes it that far.. The rest? Solid. HOWEVER! The “Johnson Trade”?? I mean, Hopkins was already dissed when they traded him & a peanut (It should make more sense in a sec, I promise!) for a washed up, broke down RB, plus a cpl of peanuts.. Can’t us knowledgeable fans at least give him the honor he is due by calling it The Hopkins Trade..?! But seriously, that is the worst trade I’ve ever heard of! Although, the more I think on it.. The Panthers trading a young (What is he? 26??) Trai Turner, a 5x Pro Bowl G, (5x in a ROW, right??) for Russell Okung, a mediocre OT at best, who is about to be 30 I think, if not older, may have something to say on the matter..

  36. e, Belichick got nervous and tried to deal Brady after their 5th Super Bowl and Kraft shut it down and Brady found out. Brady only went on to win one more Super Bowl and asked for a restructuring which guaranteed he’d be a Free Agent this year. Brady still had more milk to give and now he’s hungry to stick it to Belichick. So it’s not that he’s got nothing left to give, Belichick tried to pull the plug too early and hopefully now Brady’s gonna make him regret it.

  37. They should definitely take a look at Chris Thompson from the Washington team. He’s a great receiver out of the backfield and a solid pass blocker and I think he’d come pretty cheap.
