To celebrate Veterans Day, former Buccaneers great Mike Alstott and the Mike Alstott Family Foundation will join Mike Delancey and his Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch (WWAR) to host a flag football game between Veterans, per a press release from the Alstott Family Foundation.
As written on its release, the Mike Alstott Family Foundation “was formed to allow the Alstott’s to assist others in uplifting the minds, hearts and spirits of families and children on their way to realizing their full potential through various events, assistance programs and celebrations.”
This particular celebration takes place at Davis Field Complex on Thursday, November 10 at 10 a.m., and will include lunch from Ronnie Pastrami’s Deli at 10:30. The organizations’ goal is to promote the mission of the WWAR by providing a fun atmosphere for local Veterans. Alstott, known during his NFL career as a punishing fullback, will show his talents under center and play all-time quarterback.
As for his partner, Delancey, a Pinellas Park resident and Wounded Warrior himself, he founded the WARR organization in 2013. While serving in Iraq, Delancey was critically injured in a sniper attack during military combat and has confronted his own life-changing injuries.
The purpose of holding this event and others like it, the release states, is to get Veterans active “through various recreational activities in a safe and reflective environment.”
