PewterReportTV has launched a new regular video series called Bucs Cap Convo featuring Pewter Report’s salary cap expert Josh Queipo. These episodes – typically eight to 12 minutes in length – on Pewter Report’s YouTube channel PewterReportTV offer up Queipo’s insight and expert analysis on Buccaneers salary cap-related topics, such as contract extensions, salary cap cuts, player valuations, salary cap space and anything related to what general manager Jason Licht and assistant general manager Mike Greenberg are dealing with.
Yaya Diaby is now extension eligible and entering the final year of his rookie contract. After a slew of similarly productive edge rushers signed new deals this offseason, notably Boye Mafe, Trayvon Walker, Jaelan Phillips, Odafe Oweh and Nick Herbig, it sets a pretty strong market for Diaby.
In this episode of Bucs Cap Convo, Scott Reynolds and Josh Queipo discuss what that market means for a potential extension for Diaby in 2026. They also discuss other mitigating factors including how the team’s negotiations with quarterback Baker Mayfield and nose tackle Vita Vea may be holding up a potential deal with Diaby, how Diaby’s price tag could skyrocket in 2027 and whether the Bucs may prioritize other young players over their ascending pass rusher (perhaps David Walker?).
Finally, the two Pewter Reporters dive into what compensation might look like for the Bucs should they decide to move on from Diaby in 2027, in terms of comp picks as well as a more underutilized tool.
