After a historic (in a bad way) performance where the Buccaneers had 498 yards of offense and only three points to show for it, Tampa Bay head coach admitted that he took back play calling duties from offensive coordinator Todd Monken in the game against Washington.

I wondered the same thing, and then looked forward on our schedule…..I think Dirk was trying to take the play calling duties right before what is our easiest stretch of match ups in Washington, New York (G) and San Francisco. His goal here was to try and give the illusion that his play calling is still effective and can win the Bucs’ games. However, with this performance against Washington, it’s clear that his plan back fired. Regardless of the outcome, I think this is a sleezy and backhanded attempt to try and add extra padding to the perceived “value” he… Read more »

It was obvious he took over play calling, the offense had none of the pizazz of the first several games, it was painfully obvious. His freaken ego needs to be checked. If I’m this team owner I take play calling away from him.

So this clowns logic is that the defense is playing poorly but let me run the offense which was ran fine by monken to see if this will fix anything? Guy is a clown, fire koetter!

Peyton was running hard today. Riddle me this how many times did we run the ball in the red zone ? I would not be mad if Dirk was fired tomorrow. Make Monken interim and figure it out after that. Dirk should’ve never took play calling back.

SO first time Bucs defence allows less than 30 Points Dirk takes over play calling and kills the offence
Can we ever get a break from this premeditated BS from coaching and management.

Thanks for ruining this team and our weekends!
I go to bed here in Germany pissed again.
Monken would have given us 30+ points.
Please just go!

There’s no coming back from this..I’m sure with this dumb ass move the bucs players have completely lost all confidence in their coaching. I wouldn’t be surprised if the team doesn’t win anymore games this season.

This coach is a joke and so is our GM for letting him call the plays. Get them both out of Tampa. It’s getting harder and harder to watch my team play.

Why does this sh!t always happen to us…
First three possessions: 1) INT on the goal line (Norman makes the best blind catch of his career). 2) Fitz makes an incredible adlib play to gain (40 was it) only to be called back on a lame forward pass (always is that makes that lateral 1 yard too far forward). 3) missed field goal.

That could easily have been a 21-3 lead. WTF is wrong with this franchise.

Wow, this is damning! The defense has been the overwhelming reason why we don’t have more wins, and Koetter thinks that taking play calling duties away from the guy who orchestrated the 2nd ranked offense in the league averaging 30+ points a game is the answer? Today the defense finally played ok. They held the Reskins to 16 points even with bonehead turnovers. The defense did not play well, mind you, just ok. That is all we needed with Monken calling plays!

EastEndBoy it’s dumb. It fires coaches too soon. It fires coaches too late. They need to hire a true football guy to help with football operations. While licht can possibly maybe have 1 year cuz Dirk or lovie wasn’t HIS guys the roster is. So hire a good football mind to assist licht find a good coach then retool the roster and we should be fine.

Koetter WAS Licht’s selection … his alone, he was given carte blanc by the Baby Glazers to hire whomever he wanted after he convinced them to fire Lovie Smith.

Pitiful! This organization is a nightmare!
If I ‘m the owner, I’m calling a meeting Monday informing every coach, player, scout, don’t expect to be back so perform at your best for your next interview with a employer. GM you plainly are out of your league.

An utterly incomprehensible decision. We have been averaging 30 points a game with Monken doing the play calling and now Koetter takes back the reins and we score 3 points. Beyond stupid. Unfortunately this season is now toast and with this level of administrative incompetence we’ll be lucky to win another game. Time once again to clean house, including Licht, although to be fair he has also done some good things during his tenure, but ultimately this shambles is his responsibility and it ain’t pretty.

Not gonna kick my Bucs when they are down, but 501yds and 3 points??? I don’t know who’s fault it is, but as Ricky Richardo would say ” somebody got some ‘splainin’ to do”! lol. Koetter admits that he took back play calling, but wouldn’t say why. Would only say he had his reasons. At this point, does it really matter? Buc fan for life, not giving up now! Go Bucs!

Both bad playcalling and bad execution. That’s how you produce the most yards for the fewest points in NFL history in a single game.

Historically bad performance in the red zone.

I’m not giving up, but it is frustrating after seeing 42 years of so many makeovers. Not sure the Glazers appreciate the many fans who started with the Bucs in1976 who are still alive and still supporting this team.

Horse, I agree, I’ve been with Bucs since day 1 too. I was 10, got my 1st season tixs in 1982 I was a Sr in hs & moved yards for money. Sad for me bc it’s been such a large part of my life but it’s getting stupid, damn we’re the Browns of the NFC, we’re also the “get right game” for any team in need of a boost, the easy… Read more »

Not only did he take over the piss poor plasti calling, but in his press conf he admits to knowing he didn’t have any TO levy & you can’t throw challenge flag inside 2 mins. He admits that he knew, and still did? Enjoy whatever this team has paid ya Dirk cuz you won’t ever be a HC again(ok maybe some 7 man football at a high school in Iowa) sorry Jason you gots to go bc you can’t find a F’n kicker! 🤬

I agree change is eminent but just for the record Koetter didn’t drop a TD pass in the end zone or miss 2 makeable FG’s or throw interceptions and fumble at key times. 500 plus yards and 3 points can’t be laid solely at the feet of Koetter play calling. This is a bad team who have no idea how to or the desire to win. Just cash your checks and go home.

You could tell the offense was not as aggressive today as in the past games. Trying to establish the run when they haven’t been able to do that all year. True he didn’t miss the Fg’s or drop that TD pass but there were many other situations I just thought the play calling was not good.

I hate regime change. But it is obvious at this point that it is going to happen. I am worried about collateral damage. The Carousel of Coaches, QB’s, and failed Draft picks is so long, it does sometimes feel there is a curse on this Organization. We can’t even find a competent kicker. But I am worried that we are about to become the Cleveland Browns. Although right now that Chubb guy is looking pretty good up there in Cleveland. He had two TD’s today. one in the air and one on the ground, with 176 yrds on the ground.

There’s a hint of the Bo-Jackson Tony Dungy curse in all of this…

Since the organization violated his college eligibility he never reported to the team, there’s been a dark cloud that’s played a part of the bad luck in Tampa Bay… Sure there were changes and the Superbowl, but since getting rid of Dungy it’s been bad and even his assistants went on to good things, so it’s not just the players that feel the curse…

Closet theorist.

I can’t believe Lovie Smith took back play calling… oh sorry this is Dirk. Same stupid mistake same result. He’s gone at the end of the year if not sooner. This was a desperation move made by a coach that’s completely lost and floundering. This season is all but over and it looks like the Bucs will be looking for a new head coach. Please fire Harbaugh, Baltimore!!!

Along with taking back play-calling, Dirk also signed his own pink slip!

I’ve been saying all year that all we needed to do was field a decent defense and we’d be fine. We finally do that and Dirk in all his infinite wisdom (obviously sarcasm) decides to take over and sink the offense. It’s like he’s TRYING to get fired!

I’m glad that Koetter took over the play calling, it just goes to show you that he needs to be fired!! We need to have a new regime from the GM to the scouts and all the coaches. We do have young quality offensive players to continue building the defense and offensive line. I just hope the new regime can quickly build a good team.

Well Koetter can not get enough of driving the point home that his career as the head coach of the BUCs is over. It’s like he is firing off flare guns. “Heh, I’m over here fire me damn it!?!?!” “Hello!!! I swear to God I knew something was off with the offense today. Especially in the redzone. Overall the offense was not as aggressive as in past games and it showed!!!!! Why in the world would you decide to take over the play calling now? was averaging just over 27 points a game to many for you Dirk? Monken was averaging 65% TD’s in the redzone, by far the most in years here!!!!!! You just couldn’t swallow your pride for the whole season could you!!!!!!! After half of the season they got rid of the kicker. He had problems. The Coach and GM didn’t have problem with that. Well he did his job better than the HC and he is still here. What does that tell you.
