Jameis Winston spoke to the media on Tuesday following the team’s OTA practice. Winston spoke on a number of subjects including the play of the rookie class, his coaches and running back Ronald Jones who is hoping to have a bounce back year.

Below is a full transcription of his press conference.

On how OTA’s are going
“The more reps the better. Getting everybody together, executing at a high level can only make us better.”

On how his relationship with Byron Leftwich is progressing
“Things are going excellent. It’s great to have him in the quarterback room, to have a guy that’s been there and done that and was very successful at doing it. It’s good.”

On the importance of honesty when communicating with his OC
‘You’ve got to be honest with everybody, I think that’s just an important value to have, but in terms of just being able to fix things that need to be fixed, being candid and very honest will always help with the growth process, learning the offense and performing at the highest level.”

On working with Clyde Christensen
“It’s been great, he’s a very detail-oriented coach. He stays on us day in and day out and in a sense all the coaches are coaching together, coach B.A., coach Clyde and coach Byron, they’re all in it together so it’s good to get different perspectives but all in all the same coaching method when it comes to going out and executing when I’m on the field.”

On being efficient with his time at the facility
It’s just a part of learning your schedule and it’s a newer schedule with learning a relatively new offense. So just trying to put the right amount of work into this offense and definitely get out of here in time to go spend some time with my son and my girl, [Breion.]

On Ndamukong Suh
“He’s a beast and I’m happy to have a guy like that on our side.”

Bucs consultant Tom Moore

On Tom Moore
“Coach Moore has a lot of wisdom to share with us, mostly because he’s been with the greats and he’s seen the greatest. I get tidbits from him every now and then but I’ll keep that between me and coach Moore but it’s good to have everybody that coach B.A. allows to come and pour into this team. Again, just to get an outside looking perspective with these guys who really love football, I mean, I see coach Moore up here at 5:30 in the morning getting on the bicycle upstairs. These guys just love this game and any time you can have someone who loves this game you want to get in and just feed from them.”

On the rookie defensive backs
“The rookie defensive backs are doing well. I think coach Bowles does a great job of getting those guys to attack the football. They have one of the greatest cornerbacks, probably of all time, with coach Ross on their side. He was a dog back there in the secondary with the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m excited to see them, I’m happy to see Vernon back out there on the field, bringing energy and back to his full self. We’ve just got to keep getting better and keep growing.”

On Ronald Jones
“I would say RoJo has been showing out. I think it’s just his confidence and his comfort. RoJo is a smart guy and he’s getting comfortable in this offense. No one is breathing down his neck, he’s more relaxed and he’s out there executing at a high level and you can really see what he can add to this team.”

On Ronald Jones, continued
“I know how talented he is, that’s why he was a second-round pick. Some times guys… You know my first year, my first game, wasn’t how I would have wanted it but you’ve always got to continue to move forward and continue to grow and get better and I’ve seen drastic improvements coming in this season. He’s just a young kid who’s looking to get better, it means a lot to him. That probably why he can overthink sometimes, but the great thing is, he’s happy, he’s executing at a high level and he’s playing well. He’s playing really well.”

On Devin White and the rest of this year’s draft picks
“He’s been outstanding. Every new addition that we had in that draft, with Anthony [Nelson], like those guys, have been game changers on that defensive side of the ball so I just hope they continue to get better and we make those strides as we move toward the season.”

On if Devin White reminds him of himself
“No, he’s himself. I’m not going to be around any horses. He’s himself but he’s a great young man, he’s a great leader and I can’t wait until he gets comfortable being in this building and developing his routine because he’s going to be an amazing player for us.”

On his upcoming youth football camp
“Hopefully everyone signs up and comes out, you all come out and see what we do out there. Hopefully we’ll have our athletes with the Special Olympics come through and ball out. So we’re going to learn basic fundamentals and it’s all for a great cause.”

  2. When I think back to last year on how many times Fredster and Cgmaster called me stupid because I spoke out on the red flags of signing JPP with his off season destructive habits IE: blowing hand off ! Now this year Bucs send the man almost 8 mill in March instead of coming to camp with his team mates he was clubbing 2 AM in morning 200 miles away and drives his car into concreate wall and blows the season Stupidity is front office signing this guy who had history of off season problems a contract that pays before the play this team down 8 million less than the other 31 teams instead of articles how smart office is how about one on how stupid this front office is. Dumbest in league!!!!!!!

  4. Ass, you are a delusional person. You were still not right, you did not call anything. It was a car accident from bad weather. We don’t sit here and blame your parents for having you or Pewter Report for allowing you to have a profile, that would be the equivalent. Plus, you just talk shit about everything so even if you touch on something bad that comes true it would be like going to Vegas and betting every team will lose and bragging when you get 50% right. Just give it up. We all know you hate the Bucs, we all know you aren’t really a Fan, we all know you are a Troll, and nobody cares. I’d rather talk to a Saints Fan than someone who claims to be a Bucs Fan but really just hates the Bucs. So enough Dude, you are a broken record and we’re tired of the tune.

  6. Say what you will about Winston and his troubles, but no one can’t argue that he is media savvy. Throw whatever questions you want at him and responds back with nothing.
Question: does D White remind him of himself? “No he’s himself. I’m not going to be around any horses” 😂

  7. You are a stupid retard Bob. You said JPP sucked and wouldn’t play well and couldn’t stop run. All wrong and now because of fluke car accident your right? Screw off you negative dip shit. So he plays or doesn’t and gets cut or whatever, he gave us 12.5 sacks last year and was solid against run. If he has a career ending injury like Beckwith shit happens and you move on.

  9. Fredster and Spitfire will understand why Rams dumped Suh this time next year, All I know is 31 other teams would not touch him, we all will wait to see why. It will become clear this season.

  10. Bob, I’m curious what position you will be playing this year for Jameis’ Special Olympics Team. Did you get your t-shirt yet? Remember, the tag goes in the back. You can ask someone to cut the tag if it is too itchy.

  12. I’m hoping RoJo turns it around. I’ve watched some of his USC highlights and the guy can play. Also didn’t realize how young he was coming out of school last year, then moving across the country… yeah, I know, lots of excuses. But we need this guy to be player. Hope he makes a run at it.

  13. It’s funny BOB about how you said yourself that Suh would never come here because he wants to play for a winner and the Bucs a losers. Now that he signs with this team you say he’s washed up. Lol. You try to find a way to make yourself right now matter how many times you’re actually wrong. Your a 100% Hippocrate

  15. Never said he was washed up his numbers are good, I just do not know why 31 teams passed on him, Rams did not want him back at any price Looks like we will all find out this year.
On paper he is good player and yet no team other than Bucs offered him a contract.

  17. I’m not going to do something crazy like start a pointless debate about JPP in the comment section of an article that doesn’t have anything to do with him…why would anyone want to do something like that??

Instead, I’d like to commend Jameis on his leadership and building up his teammates in this interview. Lets root for this team and their improvements.

    Have a great day everyone!

    Go Bucs!

  19. Hope rojo is solid contributor this year. No mention of our front 5 on Offense. Makes me very nervous. What happens if Jameis gets hurt because our O line is bottom 5, we become predictable because our offense has a hallow foundation. Sounds like vicious circle. How long before 53 rich guys trow in the towel. Who has winning record with bottom 5 o line? You know what happens Bob becomes a prophet, dead last again. He is right the front office has bad more than good all the way back to Hugh, with the exception of maybe Rich Mckay. When it comes to Suh the Bucs are right & 31 other teams are wrong. He as been available for months with no interest except us. Sound money move with p.r. twist. hope it works

  20. Curious how people know what interest Suh had or didn’t have from other teams. One’s ignorance of events doesn’t mean the events didn’t occur. Who knows what discussions Suh’s agent had with prospective suitors? Surely guys like us aren’t privy to those conversations.

All I care about is how he plays this season wearing pewter and red. The logic that no one else ever proposed to your girlfriend means you shouldn’t get on bended knee, hold out a ring and pop the question might one day have you living in solace wondering what might have been. Plus it is not in keeping with the “no risk it- no biscuit” philosophy.

    If not Suh…………who?

  21. Oh Bob what a joke you are. Trying to cover your stupid remarks now Suck-Ass-Globs? Not only are you a pathetic, negative, loser, troll, your also a liar now. All year you said JPP sucked. All year said he couldn’t play the run. All year said everyone in New York were “laughing their asses off” I said only one will be getting laughed at is you when he has double digit sacks. Sure somebody tech savvy can go back and find that I said exactly that and all your stupid ass usual negative remarks.

So with 12.5 sacks, stellar against run, and everyone in league saying he was best player on this defense and played through injury because he has high motor and tough bastard, now you change narrative to you were right because he has a car crash and you predicted it? You are such an asshole it’s amazing. If they cut him over off season accident (he was not drinking or even charged!) they don’t have any negative cap hit like if they cut him over performance. So we got one stellar season out him worst case scenario and no negative cap hit. Best case is he’s back mid year and on fire again in time for a wild card run. This cat was dominant with one good hand I’m not betting against him now either.

So Bob slink off you idiot. Shit your stupid mouth before you just look more pathetic.

  22. Agree Scubog who was better first of all. Secondly, it’s not that teams wouldn’t have loved to acquire him but it’s always a money issue especially when a guy is 32. You have to have a team that has a glaring need at DT and needs just one year and can then draft a DT. He wanted to get paid and most teams aren’t going to commit long term to 32 year old. So that leaves a team that is desperate now for DT help that will be willing to pay 10 million for a season. That slims the market way down. This seems common sense but people want to read more into it and say stupid stuff like why didn’t 31 other teams get him?
