A player in a team sport is not just his own talent in a vacuum. His personality, motivation etc, extends to and influences the team, particularly to younger players.
I bet most players on the 2025 defense loved LVD as "Unc.". I doubt many of them thought that following 2025 LVD would lead them to victory.

I was happy to see Dean move on, and honestly thought he'd get the heave-ho before ultimately taking the salary reduction...Dean has always been who he is ( I've long felt like he was the D.White of the CB room, enough talent to skate by unless motivated monetarilly )... I also always felt like whenever his inner Rod "Toast" Jones would make an appearance he'd go down and fein injury, and then miss a few weeks while his ego healed.. Also I love LVD, but if he felt like he himself was loafing then he should have gone to the coaches to reduce his role, or just called it a career in season. I know I wouldn't have held it against him if he just came out and said "you know the passion just isn't there this year, and rather than drag the defense and my teammates down I've decided to retire". There is definitely a culture shift happening, and I hope that these "ass kickers" that SR has said we've brought in will light a fire the way Suh and JPP did when they were brought in and get the culture shift headed back in the right direction.

Dean is sort of fools gold. Â Obvious talent but always inconsistently displayed.Â
Dean shows potential to be a CB1 lockdown cover corner but his lapses and injury history is why he is just a 2.
Bucs right now don't have any CB that is at true 1 on the roster but paying Dean to stick around pretend to be a 1 when he is a clear 2 didn't make sense. McCollum has to show he is a 2 at some point with his contract though and hopefully Morrison or Parrish emerge as a true 1 at the position.Â
