they are too complacent with the roster again

I doubt Bowles is complacent about the roster.

He (and Licht) might believe in existing players, but Bowles especially should want to have a solid deep roster, to the extent that is possible in the NFL.

Playoff Lenny was a late addition.  I don't remember one added like that last year before the start of the year.  I just think they have an overinflated opinion of the current roster.  Licht back in the day would make signings like playoff Lenny, Jacquies Smith, etc routinely before the season started or training camp.  Improvement of the roster should not stop and Licht has really let his foot off the gas lately.  I hope the 2025 collapse lit a fire under his but along with Bowles.

Bills are signing Mike Danna. Surprised the Bucs didn't go after him to be part of a rotation.

Njoku agrees to deal with the Chargers.

Vikings sign Juan Jennings on a 1 year $8 mil deal that can be worth up to $13 MM

Buccaneers sign LS Scott Daly.  Looks like they were not happy with Deckers play and have brought in stiffer competition.

Jaguars sign RB Ameer Abudullah.

Falcons sign OL Layden Robinson -  Low key that pickup has a lot of potential for them.

Commander re-sign Antonio Hamilton

Bears sign RB Salvon Ahmed, and S Anthony Johnson Jr to 1 year deals respectively.

Vikings sign DL Loudermilk

Licht makes no bones about being a sign his own guys first type of GM and few players tick all the "good teammate" like Otton so Licht probably does over value him. But, he is 3 or 4 years younger than Njoku (who only got a one year deal) . Njoku was on the market for all this time because of age, injuries, declining production over a couple years? Those would be my guesses.

Bucs could have had Otton and Njoku if they wanted but they chose not to do so. A mystery to be honest given that Robinson wants to use 12 personnel to run the ball.

I was never in the camp that hates Otton. I think he's a serviceable TE and didn't have an issue with the team re-signing him. However, I don't think there is a good argument to be made that he wasn't overpaid. Of all of these Tight Ends that hit Free Agency, Isaiah Likely is the only one that got more money.

Licht definitely paid Otton too much.

So did many teams, right?  Njoku got an $8 million one year deal in late May

Would have rather had Njoku for 1 year 8m than tying ourselves to Otton. I just cannot handle his yips. If he gets rid of em then I might feel better about seeing him out there.

Still a great deal for Njoku and a bargain compared to other TE contracts handed out.  So his gamble to wait paid off for him instead of possibly taking a low ball deal and signing sooner with another team.

I guess but it's still overpaying for average at best talent

Agreed. I think he can be better than he has been but, it’s tough to shine in an offense that truly goes 5 WR deep.

Which is why I would have preferred Njoku for 1 year where he can block better and be a legit red zone target.

5 deep is a stretch and it really depends on which Godwin we get back.

If he's back to being a true elite #2 then the offense essentially has imo 3 elite #2 options (Godwin, McMillan, and Egbuka). Can one emerge as a low end wr1? Can Hurst supplement?

When you throw in Tez, now we have 3 slot WRs that are all pretty damn good.

Egbuka can lineup anywhere but I think he's best in the slot.

Tez is a zone buster in the slot (something Grizz never figured out).

Then Hurst wold card.

I don't disagree that we are 5 deep but it's middle of the pack talent and deep, but it lacks a super star.
