There are going to be a number of NFL HC positions available.
TB is not the pick of the litter.

So, what team would be the “pick of the litter” based on the 9 coaches we know will be fired?
Detroit maybe?
Titans?
Redskins?
Dallas?
Philly?
Chargers? Indy? New Orleans?
Objectively, Tampa with the first pick in the draft will be a top 3 destination of those listed with Philly and Detroit being better jobs theoretically. All of these franchises are moving on from their current head coach with the exception of maybe NO.
I’m interested in Udinski.
Also think the other Kubiak brother from San Fran would be interesting. Everyone always wants to chase the McVay guys, how about someone from Shanahan tree?

Agree. The Shanahan tree is more detailed and thorough.

I would think there will be 5 clear openings:
The Jets will have an opening and they have 3 first round picks. They will be in a position to land the top QB in the draft. Much like when Kubiak chose the Raiders, the Jets will likely be the top choice for an offensive minded guy. Definitely see a team picking the Jets over Bucs.
The Commanders will have an opening. Not sure how desirable they will be but if a coach likes Daniels as an option at just 25 years old, they could be a potential fit. I dont see them being much different than Tampa as a choice other than having a younger QB. I still dont know if Daniels is the answer however, particularly given his injury issues.
The Bucs will obviously have an opening. They have a journeyman questionable QB. Is he good or is he Geno Smith? They have some talent, we think, on both sides of the ball but i do think as fans we over-rate the teams talent. Would suggest mid. Defense looks improved from prior years but not enough to carry team to championship like Seahawks.
The Bengals may have an opening. Would suggest this would be a more desirable spot than the Bucs with Burrow. Bengals would have to win a playoff game you would think for Taylor to save job but who knows they kept Marvin Lewis a decade too long as well.
The Colts will have an opening. Ehhh. Dont see why one would choose them over Bucs are than not being tied to a journeyman QB.
So Bengals and Jets getting clear top pick of candidates. Bucs likely in same boat as Commanders and Colts in terms of how a coach would view talent, QB situation, draft picks, etc.
in terms of the teams you list
- Detroit will have to make playoffs to keep Campbells job. I think that's possible. If not, they will be a more desirable choice than Tampa given the talent on offense. Goff is a stud QB and the most underrated in the league. We could only dream that Baker would consistently put up Goff numbers.
- I dont think Titans move on from Saleh after one year. But if they did, having a top pick with no big contract tied to a QB already on the team, might make them more enticing than Tampa
- Dallas is one of those teams that is poorly run and will keep Shottenheimer for a decade. If they do move on from him, they will be a desirable spot but with Jerry Jones, who knows, maybe not desirable. Still would think given the market, talent level, etc. more desirable than Tampa
-I dont see Philly moving on from Sirianni after one bad year particularly with injury issues. Unless they make him a sacrificial lamb for the hurts situation but that would happen this week. I'd also question to what level the collusion goes too. Surely the owner and GM had to be aware of Hurts situation right? Hell, was Goodell aware given the overseas game and ratings? we will see how it all plays out. In any event, Sirianni has been coach for 6 years. Let's call this year a playoff miss. He made playoffs the first 5 years, superbowl twice, and won one. Pretty damn good resume if you ask me. Wonder how other coaches will view the organization if that wasn't good enough. So i think Sirianni gets 1 more year but if he didn't of course the Eagles would be more desirable than Tampa. Better run organization and GM. Howie piling up the picks, do they trade for Burrow?
-Only thing not looking ugly on the Chargers is Madison Beer. i mean could see Harbaugh quitting again but other than that, i think he gets a mulligan year. if it did become available, would depend how Herbert is viewed around the league. Is he still capable of being a top 10 guy or is his mind elsewhere. I still think he made the right choice btw...damn.....lol
- New Orleans if became available would be similar to Tampa in terms of desirableness. Not really committed to a mid QB and in a weak division. I still think Kellen Moore remains
There were 10 openings after the 2025 season which was one of the largest turnovers in NFL history. Prior to that, 7 after the '24 season, 8 after the '23 season, and 5 after the '22 season. Given the large turnover last year, i'd probably estimate this
1. New York Jets - 3 first round picks, ,a top pick, big market - ideal landing spot for a first time head coach
2. Miami Dolphins - of the 10 openings, could see a 1 and done situation, particularly if they have a top pick and OC interested in. If they go 0-17 or 1-16, likely end of Jeff Hafley.
3. Cincinnati Bengals - i mean i am not sure why this guy is still head coach. A .459 winning percentage with Joe Burrow as your starting QB. Hasn't made playoffs since 2022. One would think this is beginning to run stale
4. Indianapolis Colts - already fired GM, would think coach would be next
5. Washington Commanders - Dan Quinn just quite quitting at this point
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Bowles should have been let go end of last year. Results proving that to be true
so i am going with 6 if season were to end today.
Interesting to see who would be there at 6, if your ranking is correct
The Jets will have an opening and they have 3 first round picks.
Jets wont fire their coach. Bengals aren't firing their coach.
All things being equal, Tampa will be a top 3 opening for a coach next season. It's not about the talent in Tampa, it's about the coaching. Period.

A big market isn't necessarily a selling point, especially for new head coaches. HC's crumble in that jungle all of the time.
And it's the New York Jets. It's been over 15 years since they have seen the playoffs. There's nothing "ideal" about the fudgin' Jets.
The good thing about Tampa is they are an attractive place for players to come to cause of the weather and taxes. We don't have awful talent. We just need better leadership and could be a better team. I still think the roster needs a lot of work and could take time but with good leadership and GM we could have a quick turnaround too. Glazers should be a little smarter about their hc hires that's part of the problem is who is picking the coach.

i was just listing the teams
i'd say Jets and Bengals be only teams ahead of us. The rest, would be preference of the candidate.

not disagreeing with Tampa being top 3, but saying that means we get the third best candidate which doesnt sound as sexy when you say it like that. Still better than Bowles.
why wouldnt the Jets fire their coach? Running it back with double digit loss seasons? Now with 3 first round picks the best time to go and attract a coach, who you kidding

im more concerned with the inept front office here than i am the candidate
it's clear as day, we need an offensive minded up and comer to try and fix Baker. As you say, we have some talented pieces on offense and Baker has shown he can be a top 10 guy. We need to get that back out of him.
im concerned the front office goes like defensive minded guy or some retread - think Mike Tomlin
and again, Tomlin would be better than Bowles no doubt, but aren't we still looking at a ceiling of 10 wins with him?
that's part of the problem is who is picking the coach.
Bingo!
Tampa needs to for once in their pathetic existence, to hire a coach for being a coach, nothing more.
