Tampa beat three of the four in this “arguably the best division in football” dropping 30+ on the Seahawks and the Niners.
Keep eating your own stool there, chief…
How in the hell did they beat the 14-3 Seattle Seahawks without Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, & Jamel Dean?
How in the hell did they beat the 12-5 San Francisco 49ers without Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, & Chris Godwin?
I thought injuries were the reason the team was 8-9 and second in a crappy division that didn't even have a winning team. You don't appear to be helping your argument, slugger.
If you don't like Bowles then you see "injuries" as an excuse that lets him off the hook so you say "injuries don't matter" because ... Barton is as good as Wirfs at LT and Heck is just like Goedeke.
injuries were substantial last season. That doesn't mean Bowles is good.
injuries were substantial last season. They had a significant impact on the Bucs because the Bucs were not flush with talent.
just look at the bottom of the roster and special teams.
Yes, injuries impacted the season last year.
They are likely why the Buccaneers did not go 9-8.
Bowles, however, impacted the season to a larger degree IMHO.
He is likely why the Buccaneers did not go 12-5 after starting 6-2.
Baker was MVP candidate, ranked #1 on Nick Wrights Mahomes Mountain, Bucs ranked #1 in some power rankings after the Seahawks/49ers wins. Then it all came crashing down. Funny how you point to those games like the Bucs team was ever able to show that at any point post those games..
wouldn't the opposite also be true?
you are pointing to a specific subset of games as representative, right? Mayfield sample size is not 2023 2024 and 2025, its 11 games

Once Baker got injured the season went to hell. Lavonte David documented this on many of his media exit interviews. Probably best to not prop up a division the Buc’s owned as your example. We had proof, head to head, who the better team was. It’s weird…

so 2 games is the same as 11 games that resulted in a losing record and playoff miss, first of this decade?

Bucs were down a couple touchdowns before Bakers injury in the Rams game so by all accounts they were in the midst of a 1-4 stretch and the wheels were falling off.
The very next week, Bucs ended up beating the Cardinals

This is a cool story. The 49ers went 5-3 with it's starting QB actually missing the game and the backup playing. They, again, did not need the injury excuse.
This is the NFL. All teams have injuries. Quit with the bitch-baby excuses.

lol well I realize this is the summer doldrums so silliness rules the day but in your own post you describe the Bucs play (outside your window) as Bucs ranked #1 in some power rankings so the point is you seem to completely discount that part of the season, especially as it relates to Mayfield. So, BOTH are subsets to make a point fit.
The Bucs were probably not the "beat three our of four team" just like they were probably not the late season slide. They were a decent team, still very much in transition on the defense side, that had its first bad OC of three and A LOT of injuries, especially on the O-line, that led the on field success of the year prior. Everything in the NFL tends to be matters of degrees.

you act like 11 games is not a good sample size given how the season ended up where the 2 game sample size was not nearly enough given how the season ended up. To me, the two are not the same.
Bucs went 5-1 and we clearly are not that team.
They then went 1-4 against tough competition - DET, BUF,NE,LAR - but beat the team we should beat. We are probably closer to this team given the history of the Bowles/Baker era.
we finished the season 2-4 against 6 teams we should have beat. Brutal. Let's hope we are not that team. This was not what the Bucs did against weaker competition in 2023 and 2024. Regression if you will.
The Bucs were 5-1 when the team was injured most.
Luke Goedeke returned after the bye week. That was surely going to be a boost! Evans, Bucky, Godwin, and McMillian return! but...yeah injuries were why we went 2-4 in the end of season embarrassment.
you act like 11 games is not a good sample size…
No different than you casually ignoring his 40 games prior to your sample size.
Part of this injury problem is on our GM. He seems to place all his search criteria on if a guy is a “leader” with zero consideration for their health or injury history. He let Carlton Davis walk in FA because he was oft injured, but resigned a crippled Godwin last offseason and then invested a second round pick on Benjamin Morrison, who went on to miss a ton of games last season, after having injury problems at Notre Dame. Surprise surprise.
I have to agree with this.
We can blame Bowles and the lack of coaching and questionable game time decisions. But you need to have better depth but also be more proactive before the trade line to acquire depth.
Trading players doesn't always have to involve high profile players. Trading for a competent backup guard of example may have helped the Bucs last season win a game or two which may have been enough for the division despite Bowles coaching woes.
Friendly reminder that Baker carried this team, was an MVP front runner, and beat the champs in Seattle before the injury.
I'm gun shy on paying him but to act like last season was a bad year for him will never not be funny to me.
you act like 11 games is not a good sample size
Look, I don't believe for a minute that you even think that. I get you dont want to see him extended prematurely, but IF YOU REALLT BELIEVED THAT. (dont think you do) you'd be clowning yourself because you'd not only be ignoring his other Bucs work but actually ignoring that in the SAME season he almost single handedly lifted us to victory several times. That kind of INTENTIONAL omission would make JC5100 and Biggs go "wow, thats bad."

Good coaching? Oh wait . . .
The 49's had about the same amount of injuries as the Bucs. Yet they went 12-5.
They didn’t need excuses? Odd.
Make it make sense
