Not a fan of Gainwell if his just a third down specialist for pass pro. But if he is used on KR that helps somewhat justify his cost with new ST coach. But it still doesn't make sense given he isn't going to catch 70+ targets with this Bucs WR group and Irving healthy. He will be lucky to catch 25-30.
Is Gainwell that much better than White or Tucker?
Tucker isnt comparable. White is the comparison, the receiving/pass pro RB
Their run stats are about the same but Gainwell has a better average.
Last season White had 40 reception for about 220 yds so 5.5 average. His long reception was 18 yards and he had 0 receiving TDs.
Gainwell had 73 receptions for almost 500 yards (6.7 average) and a long reception of 45 yards and 3 receiving TDs
So maybe the best argument against Gainwell is the contract amount given the Bucs need cap space BUT I think Allgeiers signed for $6 per?
I guess we will all see.
Gainwell is a return specialist too but Tucker is a return specialist and bigger for the fraction of the cost. Gainwell is too similar to Bucky IMO which is why the Bucs needed a compliment to Bucky. Gainwell is here to protect Mayfield from being blasted with his shoulders being an issue IMO but it is an overpay.
Irving had something more than just an injury last season so maybe the are also concerned about him

Just because Tucker returned kicks last year doesn't make him a specialist. he was nothing special as both a RB and KR. Gainwell is the better player and its not that close.
Still doesn't justify paying him $7 mil per year.
Otton is a #2 TE. He's getting a contract worthy of a #2 TE. If we had Gronk on the team nobody would be complaining about Otton. It's not his fault the Bucs have not invested in the TE position. My opinion is open to change based on the numbers, but I'm guessing he's getting $12 mil or so per year.Dallas Goedert or David Njoku would have been upgrades.
and probably cheaper too
with Otton, it depends what he got, but if it was like 3 years, 30M or more...ehhh...i dont see what they see in the guy
I don't thik Otton is as bad as most here, but I hope to God Licht didn't pay him more than Goedert or Njoku. That would be foolish.
I don't like the Gainwell signing. That's a lot for a backup RB - a position that is easily replaceable.
Anzalone is a solid signing. He's on the wrong side of Father Time, but he's still at least a respectable MLB - something this team hasn't had for a long fuggin' time.
Gainwell is a versatile veteran. He's still got some gas in the tank.
Love the Anzalone pickup because he's been mentioned in multiple battle plans. We can't expect draft picks to solve the ILB problem. Hopefully we're not done signing free agents at LB or OLB.

Well if the details are true he is being paid as a mid pack #1 TE for $10 mil per year. Still think Otton is overpaid too with KG because Otton is a borderline 1 and a clear #2 TE. But overpaying for a #2 TE when you have holes on defense and no true X WR or a chance to upgrade LG doesn't make sense.

I think "what they see in the guy" is he is a decent blocking and receiving TE and ideally you need one of those to play the game.
So, not that he is great, just that he is good and better than having 3 TEs who are only good at one thing.
They probably also understood that there would be a real risk of Evans leaving. I say that because of things like the tweet from Stroud, which tied the two things together. If they knew that Evans leaving was a real possibility then all the more reason to keep Otton, especially with the cap pressure lightened somewhat by Evans likely departure.
i guess we will get some sense from the contract terms.
Outside of Anzalone this has been an awful 1st day for us. Why are we focusing and overpaying on offense? That wasn't our issue we could score we just couldnt stop anyone. I've been saying this for yrs Licht along with Bowles should have been shown the door yrs ago. Licht has lived far to long off Brady choosing us because the 49ers and Saints said no and he brought along his friends and got us a title, otherwise he would have been fired long ago. His drafts since 2020 have been mid at best awful more often then not, he has always been terrible at bringing in free agents and overvalues the players he drafts way to much and refuses to admit he missed on players.

"Otton bagged a 3-year, $30 million contract with $20 million guaranteed. That puts Otton at middle of the pack when it comes to starting tight end salaries"
If that is correct they paid him for what he is. Middle of the pack

That frustrates me the most as they are overpaying for offense when the defense needs help.
Kenneth Gainwell signed on a 2-yr deal.
mid move. $7M a year for this guy? ehh
i mean i guess we needed a White replacement so ok
only 10k guaranteed. More like 5 per year unless he hits the 4M in incentives. Which if he dors probably worth it
agreed and he's more than a White replacement
the guy was mvp of his team for a reason
Greg Aumen just tweeted don’t expect a $20m signing
like what are we playing for next year, a rebuild?
