Here's what we know to be true as of right now.  Vea is not getting traded AND he's under contract.  If he sits out, he doesn't get paid.  Period.

So guess what???  He's playing this season.  Any player not named Eric Rhett, is going to play to keep the checks coming in, while they can.  Vita seems like a smart guy.

Yeah, have to take player comments with a grain of salt.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

i found that funny.  Player comment with grain of salt but Licht or Bowles comments as gospel....

Your thought, not mine.

The comment was about the player and contract negotiations so the response was about the player and contract negotiation, but almost all public pronouncements about contract negotiations require a grain of salt because they are most often aimed at creating/influencing a perception.

Every season there are threads here about contract stuff. Almost always works out for the best.  Maybe not this time.  We should all see soon enough.

Take a closer look at the math.  If he sits out half the season he'll lose about $8 mil and still be eligible to be a FA after the season.  His next contract will be for over $50 mil for two years or it could be a three year deal. Probably about $50 mil guaranteed. If the Bucs won't give it to him or trade him he can sit out.  And when the Bucs go 0-2 the pressure will be on them more and more after every game. People will be a lot less patient when Vea isn't out there for the real games.  Who cares about preseason?

If you think the Bucs have the leverage here you really need to take a closer look at the situation.  This isn't just a simple matter of Vea expressing his displeasure and then come crawling back when the season starts.  There are three things that could happen 1) Bucs sign him, 2) Trade him, 3) He holds out.  Him playing the full season with his current deal is not going to happen. Bank on that.
