He's probably closer to 2023 Baker.

He’ll be slightly better than he was with Coen.  Baker made Coen, not the other way around.

44/9 and 12-14 wins.

move over Mahomes, Baker getting $70M/a year next year

Yeah, sacrifice the QB because he won games on his own, then saddle him with the results…somehow doesn’t quite look logical…but you guys do you.

We’ll see how it plays out.

Yeah.

But, what about the last 660 minutes of football he played?

Remember…

“hE wAs tHe mAiN rEaSoN fOr tHe cOlLaPsE”!!!!

Yes, then let’s cover our desire for “The Last Manning”, by saying we were actually for Baker, before we decided to blame him for those last 660 minutes of last season.

Its goofy. We’re going to pay him, we’re just deciding how long and how much he gets paid, and trying to do it in a way that preserves some cap room for necessary players. Baker’s going to be our QB beyond 2027.

I get it, folks are struggling to keep conversations going through quiet time.

yeah 3-8 is great.  Sign me up for more of that!

But he was so poor down the stretch that 2023 Baker would be welcomed

Or "first 6 games of 2025" Baker, right?

the point I am making is that not only does your position require you to ignore 2023 and 2024 it forces you to ignore his play in the actual season you are referencing. So when you suggest the 11 game sample size is large it's only a fraction of the actual sample size and it's immediately adjacent to an in-season sample that contradicts your conclusion.

thanks for trying to answer. If he is "2023 Baker plus" then the market says he's probably worth 53ish per, it seems

the last half last year was the worst football of his career (Cleveland/Tampa seasons); that doesn't concern you guys?

We’ll see how it plays out.

you mean like the Washington playoff game where he fumbled the ball in the 4th quarter on our own 13 yard line.  We were up 17-13 at that point. Don't think he won that game on his own?

Guy was a turnover machine in that 4 game losing streak last year (NO, ATL, CAR, MIA).  5 INT, 1 fumble lost. One might suggest the opposite of winning games.

And nobody is sacrificing him.  Why are you so dramatic.  You act like we are saying we dont want Baker in 2027.  We just want our franchise to be smart about it, which currently they are...

luckily for you, we are a poorly run franchise so i could see you still getting your wish this summer.

Well, playing behind an offensive line where the entire starting line never played together, and an OC who didn’t use a quick pass to alleviate the pressure he was facing behind that line, in the first half of the season - doesn’t sound like they set him up for success, does it?

Then we saddle him with that 2025 defense.

Sounds a lot like, “you’re on your own Bake, but we’re counting on you”

That is why this off season feels bizarre from my view.  You want Mayfield to show he is your guy and pay him but what have you done to avoid the 2025 collapse and not rely on Mayfield magic again for a hot start in 2026?

Mayfield magic and rookies whether it is fair or not is all Licht has in his tool box left unless he wakes up and starts to become more aggressive by adding talent to this roster before the season starts in the next few months.

Just a quick aside: where does Mayfield’s 2025 season rank, fewest in his tenure as the Buc’s starting QB, rank in the history of the organization?

Baker in his own career

1. 2024 season

2. 2023 Season

3. 2020 Season - Cleveland

4. 2018 Season - Rookie Year, Cleveland

5. 2025 Season

6. 2021 season - bad

7. 2019 season - bad

8. 2022 season - the Cleveland/Rams season

Comparing Baker to Brady, 2025 worse than any Brady season including the 2022 season.

Comparing Baker to Winston or Freeman are guys that weren't good and yet rank in our top QBs in franchise history.  Comparing Baker to guys that played 2 and 3 decades ago, different era of football my brother.

Again, Baker is a contract extension away from owning all the records.  Kudos, help me understand how that warrants 5 years, $275M if it means losing records

you guys need to hold Baker accountable.

Look at Sam Darnold, a 3 year, $100M contract. He had a very pedestrian season but had a QB rating of 102 in the playoffs, 5 TDs, 0 INTs, 0 turnovers.  He relied on a great defense and run game but make no mistake he came alive in the Championship game with 346 yards and 31-27 over the Rams.

now Baker at $33M a year, similar pedestrian year to Darnold, worse defense and run game, etc.  Clearly Seattle had a better team, coach, etc. but they were able to build around Darnold.

now we know a Baker contract extension would be north of $50M a year.  That's a pretty good player we will have to forgo to afford that.

Baker needs to be better than what he showed last year if we want to win a championship and commit to that, hence the Bucs low ball offer; Bucs have doubt in him or just being cheap?

but let's use CaPs to MaKe It SoUnd bEtTer (ah gahhh huh...goofy disney voice)

Imagine being the slow type that think W/L is a QB stat.

Window lickers...

When you're a smooth brained flip flopper, you need to hedge your bets.

But, as you said, it's that time of year.

Headed up to NY for the US Open. At least the majors help with the down time.
