i mean honestly, it seems you are using the first 8 games

well you say "seems like" because I am not, in fact, saying that, right?

I have actually said that his work over three season/three coordinators with the Bucs probably tells you who he is with the Bucs.

And I have said that he is probably between 2023 and 2024. Depending on the metric he was something like 15th and maybe 4th or 5th, respectively, but here if you want to try to compare the time frames being dicussed using actual nubers this is what we have, just to highlight the absurdity of "last 8 games"

2023 2.8TD per INT

2024 2.5 TDs per INT

So over two seasons he is about a 2.6 TD to INT QB, right?

In 2025 I think he is about 2.3 TDs per INT, so lower than average BUT you and Biggs are arguing that he's only the period where he was 1.33 TDS per INT even though in the same season, before your weird division, he was probably 5TDs per INT

Either way though 1.33 is so far off his actual statistical average it should suggest to you and Biggs that your method is off, right? What if I said "he is a 5 TD to INT QB" because of the first 9 games or whatever? lol. Hopefully youd laugh at m

the point you are missing is it was arguably the worst football of his career, those last 8 games, and certainly worst as a Buccaneer

Those supporting a premature extension are saying injuries to Baker, injuries to offensive line, and poor offensive coordinator

and all i am saying is we have the luxury for him to prove it

with a market value of $50-$55M no matter what, a franchise tag at our disposal, and 17 games to gain clarity, what sense would it make to extend him now?

EDIT:  If Baker played the entirety of his 2025 season closer to 2024, then i'd be pounding the table for the Bucs brass to sign him now...and quite frankly the extension would have been done back in February already.

what's this?  Baker willing to play on franchise tag?  $47M.  Appreciate the cap hit would be larger hit then the $47M and not as ideal for Bucs but still interesting note from Jeremy Fowler.  Why is this being admitted this far out from free agency?

Come Bake...play with that chip on your shoulder and shove that doubt where the sun don't shine for the Bucs brass, me, etc. Guy, is already knee buckling about March negotiations....

Baker Mayfield is willing to bet on himself amid Buccaneers contract standoff

Great stuff.  There is no standoff either.  This has always been simple off-season drama.  If we don’t get a contract done, who cares, because we will eventually.

from the article

"The most important factor is that both sides want a deal to get done and are operating in good faith to make it happen."

To be clear there was never any atomicity from Baker or his camp as he knows who has the bargaining power in this negotiation (Bucs brass for those not from Philly) and he also likes playing in Tampa; it's just odd that a deadline was given of training camp and then out of another side of mouth...ahh take your time, we can figure this out in 2028!!!

For context, I think the assessment is his first 2-1/2 seasons, not the first & last 8 games of 2025.

there is clearly more evidence that those previous 2 years have more consistency with the first 8 games of last season, than the last 8 games.

Thats what some/most are arguing. Hence the cherry-picking reference.

Now add the new competent OC, healthy o-line, running game, and better defensive talent makes the case for expectations of more winning, for most of us.

So long as Baker is QB.

about the 10:30 makr Stroud says a deal could happen any moment (he doesn't mean imminent he mean they are talking)  and something around 50.  To babdabings ppint he goes on to raise the injury issues because Baker acts like he is Josh Allen (lol) and sau for that reason it wouldn't be the worst thing if they dont get it done and they see if Mayfield has taken to heart the "be smarter" messaging he is getting about staying healthy.

he goes on to predict a deal before the end of training camp

Never been a big Stroud fan, but he does have contacts, so I treat his stuff as another data point. But because there are so many national/local & recent stories on negotiations, it appears both sides are working leaks to sympathetic outlets.

Definitely ramping up.

would you agree that 2023 and 2025 Baker are closer to what Sam Darnold was last year.

Sam Darnold won a Super Bowl; but that Seahawks team had a better run game, a better WR core, a better defense, a better head coach, etc.

Sam Darnold contact was 3 years, $100M similar to Baker.  Now the cap hit for Baker will double and we are not as good a team.

you see where im going there?

why not see what Baker we are getting for $50M+ a year.  the 2023 one or the 2024 one?

oh, I took the comment to mean a) he was asked and b) he said he would play it on it, implying that it will be about $50 million then so why would the Bucs want that? Isn't part of the benefit to the Bucs of the longer deal better cap management then having him play on the tag?

franchise tag is $47M which by all accounts would be lower than what many would consider Bakers market value in a new deal (Love, Purdy, Hurts, Goff, Lawrence, etc.)

i think from a cap hit perspective it's more to the Bucs, but Baker only getting $47M by all accounts would be a disappointment in his camp, one would think given the current market value for the QBs tiered in the top 15 let's call it.

Well I would definitely need help with the contract part, but you say the part in bold above . . .so isnt that his point in the game of chicken?

The Bucs already have a big cap hit in 2026 for him and then it would be huge in 2027 because it would be the the tag (about 50K then) PLUS all the other $ from the void years as a cap hit?

He gets a huge raise and then he is a free agnet?  That is a WIN to a guy whose entire career is about betting on himself

Again, I dont think it matters. I think they get a deal done, but he wouldn't be disappointed with $47-$50M in one season and then free agency.
