I read that as well. If Mayfield and his agent didn't even respond to that offer, just what the hell were they asking for? Seems to me they wanted a bigger APY and a longer deal. I wonder if they were hoping for 3 years at $60m APY? It remains conjecture at this juncture.

They are looking for a long-term extension, probably in the range of 5 years @ $250M-$300M. At this point, because of how he finished the season, the Buccaneers are only interested in a short-term extension - and rightfully so. I'm fairly confident the Buccaneers offers would have been closer to his ask, if he had continued his MVP-level of play that he started the season with.

What the Bucs offered was completely fair. Mayfield wants a longer deal and I will say, if we keep him, I would want a longer deal as well. Doing this every 24 months is getting old af. My guess is Mayfield will have a season closer to 40 TDs than 25. He is going to play chippy and his early TD production is going to be nasty.

so for avoidance of doubt, it was not 2 years, $25m a year or $50M total. not saying you are saying that but that would be a decrease in pay
i think you are saying 2 years, $100M which adds up to what i am understanding as to what the Bucs offered. Still, to expect Baker to accept that is Ludacris given he'd be forgoing potential larger pay day.
the guy is 31 years old and this is his last pay day.
With QBs playing well into their late 30s, i would not be shocked if Baker's camp was looking more to a 5 year deal at $50M + per year
If Baker pays at a high level this year, then i think he may even get it
If he plays closer to 2023/2025, then i think honestly, 2 or 3 years is about all he will get. Probably still looking in the 50M range.

he throws 35+ TDs again then id be all on board with the 4-5 year deal
my question to you is if he throws closer to the 25 TDs, Bucs go 8-9, miss playoffs again; what is the offer?
