Your boy, Byron Leftwich is still a lowly assistant coach - I guess. I can't find any reporting otherwise, but the sorry bastard isn't even listed on the team's website anymore.
It's worth noting that Byron Leftwich is out of coaching again. It seems he unceremoniously has left the Colorado program, I would guess because he was salty about being passed up for the OC job multiple times. Coach Prime just can't recognize greatness.
Shocked!!!
What is Prime thinking?!?!

"Sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield and his agent used Green Bay's Jordan Love (four years, $55M per year, $160.3M total guaranteed), Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence (five years, $55M per year, $200M total guaranteed), and San Francisco's Brock Purdy (five years, $53M per year, $182.55M total guaranteed) as comps during the negotiations," Laine wrote. "Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Mayfield's issue wasn't just length of the deal or guaranteed money. While he did not set out to reset the market, $50M per year would have put Mayfield 13th in the league among current deals."
And, there’s a HUGE difference between Baker and those aforementioned QB’s.
Something nobody mentions.

how about Dak Prescott?
4 years, $240M, signed back in 2024. He was...the ripe old age of 31 years old!

Well, look at you!
And, as it pertains to Love, Trevor, and Purdy…the guys that Baker and his agent supposedly comped.

yeah. he comped them because of Baker being in a similar tier and worthy of a similar type contract.
But precedents have been set that being 31 doesn't mean you have to accept a 2 year offer.
Particularly with QBs playing well into their late 30s, early 40s.
But precedents have been set that being 31 doesn't mean you have to accept a 2 year offer.
Of course you don’t have to accept a 2-year deal.
But, at that age, how many 2-year vs. 4-year deals do you see with QB’s?
And, since you used Dak as a comp; how many 4,400 yard, 30+ TD seasons has Baker had to bring to the negotiating table?
I think Baker puts himself in the tier of Love, Lawrence, Goff, Purdy, Hurts, etc.
Yeah that's fair

Again why would we rush to pay him more than $50m? If the offer was truly a 2 year extension for $100m, then Baker should take it so we can effing win.
I've flip flopped on how Licht has handled this and without all the insider info, I am now leaning that Baker is being a tad ridiculous here.
Context is key. Licht gave him a chance. Baker has had 1 great year and 2 solid years.
He should be paid 50-55m a year. If he wants more then he needs to ball out. I like the contract year incentive.
Worst case scenario is we franchise him.
so Baker should sacrifice money but Lawrence, Purdy, and Love should not?
This isn't Tom Brady who was married to a 500 million net worth super model wife
Purdy and Lawrence are overpaid.
Purdy was making like $1m year for 4 years so I think that's a fair trade off.
Lawrence was benchable prior to Coen.
Just because they overpaid we should too?

Also are the cowboys winning in this formula? Nope
So Dak has played better than Baker (albeit with two great weapons) and they don't even make the playoffs.
Maybe Dak has an MVP type season this year and they get to the playoffs?
Otherwise, what's the formula for success...? Copy amazing systems with QBs thriving? Are we going to replicate what Coen did under our new system?
Doubt it but if we do cool. Then pay Baker 60m/year

You’re talking to a guy that isn’t even sure wants Baker back.
id like to see how he rebounds this year
as well known in this thread alone, I put alot of blame on him for the 2-4 record to end the season against easy opponents. If not for the defense, we’d have been 0-6. QB is leader of offense.
many optimistic supporters of Baker are mentioning his injuries and offensive line injuries. Understood.
but since baker has been “consistently inconsistent” his entire career, I guess I’d like to see the bounce back this year, maybe surpass 30 TDs to get us back to a winning record/playoffs
that being said, the market value has been set so unfortunately he’s looking at a 4 year, $50M AAV type deal if the Bucs want to commit to him.
again, the prudent move is as you suggest, letting this year play out
Are we going to replicate what Coen did under our new system?
Doubt it but if we do cool. Then pay Baker 60m/year
Then that would make signing Baker to a huge deal extremely idiotic.

It's a bit of a catch-22.
Unfortunately we're stuck in this purgatory of being middle of the pack unless we see something spectacular this year.
My wet dream is that the defense finally shows up but then that means more Bowles... Another catch-22
If not for the defense, we’d have been 0-6. QB is leader of offense.
Based on what exactly? Playing rejects?
The defense blew the pivotal falcons game.
