It’s got to be exciting to be a Rams fan. They go for it every year. They just traded Jared Verse and a first round pick to the Browns for Myles Garrett. This means two things. 1. Rams are winning it all this year. 2. We now have a great shot of winning week 2 against the Browns.
They drafted a QB. Now trading Verse and a 1st rounder? So, they see this year, maybe next, as a last shot then blow it up?
Garrett is something like $40 million per? But not sure who is paying.

well
1. no guarantee Rams winning it all but they certainly will be a top contender once again in the NFC. They likely enter as the favorites but Seahawks, 49ers, and Eagles are in that same tier.
2. We should have had a great shot anyway of beating the Browns. Even with Garrett, was our easiest non-division game on the schedule
2027 1st rounder
2028 2nd rounder
2029 3rd rounder
Plus Verse.
Rams going all in.
Seems pretty short sighted by the Rams. Browns fans have to be ecstatic!
My initial response was why would the browns do this? Then I saw what they got. Pretty good asset management for an aging player who will get paid a ton on his next deal and maybe still will be good but no guarantee if he lives up to that deal. Get a good young player and draft picks to an organization that needs that. Garrett is a great player but that organization is going nowhere this year or maybe even next year too. Just build it properly and maybe they can be a good team at some point again.

short sighted is good some times
remember when the Bucs did that with Brady, worked out well
remember when the Rams did that with Stafford, Von Miller, etc. Worked out well.
Rams realize their window is the next 2 years and just saw a team with Sam Darnold win the Super Bowl. It's there for the taking and wide open, you have to applaud them for going all in.
Bucs wont go all in again until we sign Mahomes in 10 years.
remember when the Bucs did that with Brady, worked out well
remember when the Rams did that with Stafford
The two teams are more parallel than you might think
we win in 2020 with Brady, kick ass in 2021 but fall short and then bad 2022
the Rams win in 2021, suck in 2022, back up to okay in 2023, losing in the WC as we go to the division round (better by the Bucs)
They even drafted a future QB like we drafted Trask (only to have their QB say he wants to play more, maybe)
We are winning post SB seasons (after 2021) with 8, 9 and 10 wins, they are winning post SB seasons with 10 wins
2027 1st rounder
2028 2nd rounder

Steal for the browns imo. Great move

The Rams are a great lens through which to view the Bucs. The Rams exist on a different plane than the Bucs but so many parallels, right down to this offseason where BOTH teams wanted to fix poor SPECIAL TEAMS and a SAGGING DEFENSE.
With similar cap profiles to begin the offseason, their SPECIAL TEAMS moves are similar (coordinator and a couple players).
On DEFENSE though the Rams go on to pull off big defensive trades for McDuffie and then Garrett, even trading away one young star on defense to get Garrett. They sign Jaylen Watson, so they add Super Bowl tested talent and one of the best defensive players in the game.
The Bucs signed value FAs to fill their biggest need (LB) and second biggest need (pass rush) and have not yet signed a notable CB, even though it appears to be a need. No notable trades, let alone for so much draft capital.

i mean other than the Rams do it better. Better head coach, better QB, better roster, better division, better playoff success
The Rams are the favorites to win it all again this year.
This notion not to mortgage the future when you have a clear window is silly.
The Rams may entirely suck in the future but much like we said with Brady....it's worth it.
The Browns won this trade by a mile.
If you really look at it objectively, it feels like the Browns instigated this trade.

it was good for both teams
the Browns weren't going anywhere with Garrett. Add a solid pass rusher in return as well as draft capital. Will they screw it up? Absolutely but on paper, a solid trade to help build the team.
The Rams got a guy who averages 16 sacks a season and had 23 last year in his age 30 season. The Rams are trying to win another superbowl and are betting favorites.

They were the betting favorites prior to yesterday. Which is why I question the move for the Rams. Sometimes when you try to outthink the room, you get an aging vet with a pec injury who doesn’t play and you are out significant future draft capital.

Yes, agreed. The better/simpler way of stating the "Rams exist on a different plane than the Bucs." And also why I chose to describe it as a parallel, not identical.
On the different plane, the Rams have one of the best HCs in the game, the Bucs are trying to decide what to do with their HC . .
On the parallels, the Bucs lost their older future HOF WR, the Rams have their guy (Devante Adams) . .
Both teams start their top 5 cash commitments with their QB (Rams win), but then the Bucs go to mostly their SB veterans (Vea, Godwin, AWJ) who collectively produced not much last season. The Rams go Garrett, Adams (our Evans), McDuffie and LT Alaric Jackson, so a couple key outside moves. Again, all in versus transition/rebuild.
