Maybe the Glazers want to see if Bowles can spark that magic with Mayfield and make him take that next step before turning the page.
Yeah, because Bowles has quite the record of sparking magic with his QB's.Â
Mayfield is definitely playing in the next game and this will be the big tell for the Glazers as it is also against a division foe too.
Bowles has run out of runway if he can't get Mayfield squared away and playing right.Â

a loss to the Panthers all but eliminates usÂ
Bowles fate is tied to how Mayfield performs. if Mayfield performs and wins games that buys Bowles time.
its a fair point, but I would modify it slightly.
I dont think there is any way Bowles stays after this season BUT the one way that could happen would be if TWO things happen. First, Mayfield comes back and lights it up and the team wins. Your point. Second, the defense continues to perform. My additional thought.
I throw in that second part because the most likely thought behind keeping Bowles was that they just needed some talent on D and that would lead an improvement. if we are being honest, that has actually occurred so far. The defense is actually top 10 in multiple categories, gave the team many ways to win yesterday etc. On top of that Bowles "hand-picked" players are part of the improvement, so guys like Trotter and Scott and Parrish and even McCollum (a 5th round pick).
So my point with the second factor is just that an OWNERSHIP group looking to "vindicate" its (bad) decision to keep Bowles might might see late wins and defensive improvement as a justification
To be clear I think that is a very, very longshot scenario so only describing ga way it could play out, not what I would expect to happen.

Yep.Â
Hopefully, Canales puts this abortion of a season out of its misery.Â

It's already over even if we winÂ

yeah most likely
a win would give some false hope. We would basically need to sweep the division to have a chance
we are likely looking at a ceiling of 5 wins to be honest
This team is capable of going 3-3 in the division and wining some non divisional games (eg Chargers) to limp over the finish line. Bowles might pull off a Fisher like season to close out the year but why would anyone want him back?
Like I said it comes down to if Mayfield is wired and dialed in because if he looks checked out then Bowles is toast. But if Mayfield looks like a MVP from his comeback Bowles has bought himself some time.
I think Glazers will do whatever the cheapest thing to do is. If at the end of the day if there is a logic to them to keep him they will. They kept him after that abomination last season right?

Unfortunately, you can absolutely see a scenario where this happens.Â
As comical and sad as that sounds.Â
Mayfield magic and the 2026 rookies is what this team has left to muster up a fighting chance for the rest of the season. This is the path Licht chose to go down with the way he conducted the 2026 off season so Licht better pray this pays off sooner or later.

Like Tony Soprano in season 2 when they whack Big Pussy, "Does Mayfield magic even really exist?"
i mean even in his top 10 QB year 41 TDs back in 2024, the Bucs were 4-6 at one point.
He played ok the first few games last year, and the magic was us winning close games, but outside of Seattle-49ers back to back weeks, i'd argue those were the only 2 magical weeks from the offense putting up 30+. He was mid to ass the rest of the season. Last 11 games absolutely brutal.
He sucked so far this year. 0-3 averaging 205 YPG and not even a passing touchdown per game. He has 5 total turnovers in 3 games. Seeing on twitter Baker bros posting "do you miss me" when comparing him to an undrafted rookie is hilarious. Still, can't say with confidence our record would be any different at this stage
I think we are better off with Baker than the rookie, but that's just off of hope and dreams and Coen oh my.....if he comes back and throws for 180 yards with INTs matching TDs contributing, then yeah...we dont miss you, you just suck. Hopefully Danels play sparks some magic out of Baker, but i wouldn't hold my breath.Â

They've already shown us who they are... Winning is secondary to profit.

Praying for 3 tops... I want that early pickÂ
