Allen is the superior prospect. It's that simple.
Rodriguez was gone. Allen was there. We reached... He might not have been there with our third round pick but it's still a reach.
It's still a position of need and was not addressed with the signing of Anzalone or the drafting of Trotter. They had 3 guys with the potential to fill that gap right there waiting to be drafted and they took the opposite of a need. And I really don't care how many articles are written from people who don't actually watch football games. Trotter is great at defending the run and tackling....both great qualities.....but that is not what this team needed at the LB position.
this is I think the essence of the angst with Trotter ie it's really angst with Bowles and/or Licht for not filling the need
i have posted multiple times and often with real 2025 examples that the Bucs defense of 2025 was largely unraveled by TEs and RBs ie the coverage role SO I AGREE WITH YOUR POINT.
i place that 100% on Bowles fwiw because it seems to me Licht is mostly trying to give Bowles what Bowles thinks he needs. Could be wrong.
He might not have been there with our third round pick but it's still a reach.
Can you just expand on that?
we have the 46 and 77. Trotter will not be there at 77. The Bucs should not use the 46? Who is the LB they get later?
I like Trotter, had all my fingers & toes crossed for Rodriquez, but I would have settled for CJ Allen over Trotter. Saw a game where Allen was putting guys in position pre-snap at UGA, which indicated he was dialed-in and trusted to make those calls by his coaches. I thought that would have meant something.Allen is the superior prospect. It's that simple.

Maybe Trotter will surprise, OBP clearly had him graded evenly/slightly above Allen on their board.
We’ll get to see if their improvement in drafting ILB’s is as lucky improved as their newfound ability to draft Edge’s.
Not opposed to that, expect Anzalone to be serviceable for the next two years though.Still need to address the position within the next 2 years.
No.
We will need to address it in the next draft/offseason.
haha DH is expressing his Bowles anger. The entire team will be revamped when Bowles is fired at the end of the season
;-)
Or, I'm simply pointing out that next year, we'll be going into the season with a 33-year old cover backer on the last year of his contract.
Agreed. Even today on the Rich Eisen show, Bowles said something along the lines of Trotter "was good in pass defense" which is totally false. I know I rant and rave about this pick but I don't mind having Trotter. I even had him picked in the 3rd on one of my mock drafts because I felt like the Bucs would take 2 LBs in the draft. He is excellent versus the run, can lay a lick on somebody, and tackles very well. All of those are excellent qualities and what you look for in an inside LB. But what my eyes told me repeatedly last season was pass coverages blown and usually by the LB Group. That just hasn't been addressed effectively in my opinion. It's still a position of need and was not addressed with the signing of Anzalone or the drafting of Trotter. They had 3 guys with the potential to fill that gap right there waiting to be drafted and they took the opposite of a need. Bottom line is he's a Buc now and I am going to cheer for him as a Buc and I hope he adds to the resurgence of the defense. My quarrel is with Licht and Bowles, not Trotter.

Here's the real problem, fellas...
"Pewter Report has reported that the team had him similarly graded to Rodriguez"
EVEN IF Rodriguez was available, there's no guarantee that he's the pick.
Can't wait for this regime to be out the door.
Trotter will have much expected of him, perhaps unfairly, because of the dire need the Bucs have at that position. What kind of team expects rookies to bail them out? Well, whatever the answer to that is here we are. That's us. Hopefully they can ease him into a starting role over time and not need him to be the savior from Day 1.
The fact that Trotter is the son of a great player who has connections to Bowles could go either way. As with Winfield, the bloodlines could help Trotter to transition to the NFL with professionalism and not be overwhelmed. If he doesn't live up to the high expectations then the criticism will become that he was picked over better options because of the family ties. And if Bowles loses his job and Trotter underperforms he could be headed for a quick exit under a new coach.
OF course I hope he becomes the next Winfield for this team and becomes a team leader. That's what you expect of a 2nd round pick.

100%.
Lol.
And this is why my quarrel is with Bowles and Licht, not Trotter. I would be willing to bet the farm that no other NFL team had him similarly graded as Rodriguez. That tells me there is an evaluation problem at One Buc Place.I like Trotter, had all my fingers & toes crossed for Rodriquez, but I would have settled for CJ Allen over Trotter. Right there with you, my friend.
No issues with Trotter, the player.
Hope he turns out to be a stud, and not a wasted pick at LB'er like White.
Comparing Trotter to White is dumb and lazy. Trotter has better tackling technique and makes pre snap reads which is why he is here along with Rozeboom and Anzalone. Licht and Bowles said enough with the hyper athletic traits and lets get some LBs that can make tackles.
haha.
I think the comparison is downhill. It was tough to run wide on the Bucs when White was early in his career. The Bucs describe Trotter the same way. You seem to be saying he's better (technique and tackling and reading plays). Even better.
I am saying that Rozeboom and Trotter are going to put on a clinic when it comes to pre snap reads filling gaps and making tackles. These guys are nothing like what the Bucs have had in recent memory. LVD in his prime maybe but even then LVD played money backer and wasn't asked to take on OL reaching the second level like these guys will be doing.

@alldaway - I hope you’re right about Rozeboom and Trotter. I do think we’ll be better, just need to see it first.

Same team that graded Aguayo as a 2nd. Logan Hall trade back out of the first. Kancey can play inside. Braswell... The list goes on in the 2nd.
If Winfield hadn't fallen into his lap the record for his 2nd round picks would be pretty fucking bad.
Allen was right fucking there
