Former Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has broken his silence on his departure from Tampa Bay.

And he didn’t hold back much.

Appearing on the FOX Sports show Undisputed on Wednesday, McCoy shared his displeasure with the way he felt he was treated by the organization over the last six months, including the team giving his number 93 to Ndamukong Suh and also not being contacted by the team’s new coaching staff.

WHAT A WHINY LITTLE BABY. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND TAKE HIM OFF THE WALLPAPER. THE DAY HE WAS CUT WAS ONE OF MY HAPPIEST DAYS BEING A BUCS FAN.

  4. I’ve never been a big GMC fan. And I was in favor of making the change. That said, treat the man, and any member of the team as a man and with dignity and respect. Quite frankly this is inexcusable.

It’s difficult for me to think any less of Jason Licht, but this just added one more nugget of disgust. Cannot move on from him soon enough.

  8. Not a nice way to leave. Gerald had a lot of good years here. He settled for a lot less money in the end. Even Suh ended up getting paid more. I think both sides lost on this. But I am not sure it could have been avoided.
Ironic, that the knock was that he never had a Defense that helped him. Sapp brought out the best in his Teammates. McCoy did not have that ability.
When Panthers are on the bottom and we eventually claw back to respectability, he will regret this move. Or the Bucs will collapse again and we all start watching lawn bowling…

  11. Shots fired! Never been a big McCoy fan, but this isn’t a good look for Licht and the Bucs.

ps His whole “I’m a vegan now” rant at the end is exactly what has always turned Bucs fans off. I spent 95% of that clip kind of shaking my head at the organization and the last 5% chuckling thinking to myself “oh yeah, this is why I’m glad you’re gone”. Not that there is anything wrong about being a vegan, but just learn to shut it down and self-edit GMAC. You went out sounding like a real pussy after your rant and it lost its entire effectiveness on me. Comic books, helping opponents up from the dirt, apologizing after you hit Big Ben, and now you add this vegan shit for critics to roast you on? Just sayin!

He’s wrong about the number thing and he doesn’t seem to be self aware of how he ranks in the scheme of things. Sapp by this point in his career had 72 sacks, GMC only 54.5 making Sapp ~34% more effective in that regard.

Contracted and contacted have two very different meanings… and why are you even posting about a player who is no longer a Buccaneer??? You can’t find something else that relates to the Bucs to write about? McCoy accepted a lot less money to play for a division rival while making almost $100 million with the Bucs! He is owed nothing by the Bucs! I’m just saying…

  16. Whether you like GMC or not this was a very awful handling of the situation. He played at an elite level while this franchise sifted through regimes and players like madmen. To act like he’s been the problem with the Bucs would be irresponsible and down right wrong. Last season might’ve been the first season he played with a double digit sacked. The schemes we’ve employed had been varied and all awful but he managed to produce. Licht treats GMC like he’s drafted or signed sooo many Pro Bowlers that this is just business. Great way to handle a guy that took a lot of awful decisions in stride. Then again not sure what I expected from Licht whose making a case for worse GM in history.

At least call the guy in and let him know up front. CLASSY organizations do that you know. Note the word..CLASSY. No, he’s not owed anything by the Bucs. Its just for you young’uns..We do have a messy history of dealing with players and money. Here it is we have not been a winning team for yrs yet..we are in salary cap hell..begging players to take less or to restructure. Good GM’s
handle problems. Note the word GOOD. Lets all pray our Bucs start winning so WE..do not have to find..fresh Scapegoats for next season. Remember.. He will be remembered as one of the better Buccaneers. Maybe a Ring of Honor candidate… though I doubt he would be selected. This same thing happened to Brooks, Lynch, and Sapp in their final days with Bucs. I salute McCoy for his service with the Bucs! I really appreciate his work in the community as well. He is a good man. But… he is no longer a Buc… in fact he plays for an NFC South rival now! Don’t care to hear about him or his feelings! He got rich playing for the Bucs! Enough already with McCoy! 21. Well so much to unpack here.

First I respected McCoy as a very good player not great. His “they did not disrespect me” rant is not a good look for him. Football players are like every other job it about productivity for the business and when your not living up to your paycheck things have to change. His entitled attitude is part of reason why Coach A sent him on his way. He did not want diva’s on this team because they translate into soft players.

Second for him to think he is in the conversation of best Buc players ever is laughable. I can name 20 better then him off the top of my head. Hes not even top 5d line (Selmon, Logan, Sapp, Rice and Dotson to name a few). Man he has an inflated opinion of himself. Someone please provide an example a game that he was just took over, was a game changer or elevated others play around him to their highest level.

Lastly, I keep going back to something JPP said at the end of last year. It was the day after the last game and he was cleaning out his locker. It went something along the lines of their are alot of fake guys who say they right things to media but behind the seems are not what they make themselves out to be. not a direct quote but something along that line. I think most people thought it was about MeSean and Grimes. I contend it was about McCoy. His actions today after saying he would not bad mouth the team and then did it anyway speaks volumes about who he is .

Things came to an end it’s not always pretty but to get respect you have to give it also.

  24. If you read in between the lines you can see that respect, glory, etc were more important to McCoy than winning. The new coaching staff didn’t draft him and probably knew that McCoy wasn’t going to be around given the salary cap implications. Why should they call him if he wasn’t in the plans? Get over it…do we need to explain to an NFL vet that this is a business? Is GMC that naive? Comparing his situation to Barber, Brooks, Sapp, Selmon and Lynch isn’t comparable. He never made the playoffs. They did. Not necessarily GMC’s fault but he has a very high opinion of himself. Arians comments on GMC during the offseason were spot on. He is at the age where productivity and money don’t line up. If he was interested in staying with the Bucs and helping the team win, he would have had some introspection and taken a pay cut or restructured his deal like other people who want to win have. He made a TON of money off the Bucs…you can’t compare his situation to an All Pro who is looking to sign his first bit contract with a team and isn’t getting any respect. GMC got much respect for a long time by the Bucs and the whole community. Sounds like a whiny jerk who doesn’t recognize that and feels entitled. News flash…you aren’t entitled and you aren’t the player you were 4 years ago. You are the Panthers salary cap concern now and you’ll likely get 4 – 6 sack while playing 10 games this year. Not worth $10 million or more.

Disrespect?? Where were you Gerry during the big press conference announcing and introducing Bruce Arians as our new head coach?? Comic-Con? Your “bat cave”? Why does it always have to be about you, Gerry?? This just in, you are not a legend nor will you ever be (except perhaps in your make believe mind) so why should the Bucs treat you like one?

The Bucs are actually being the more professional & mature handling of this. Rather than respond with their take on this ordeal (and there’s more to it than what we’ve heard from Gerry), they permitted his replacement to wear your former number (93) after GMC signed on with the Pussies. I think if he signed with Slob’s fave team (Browns), Suh doesn’t wear #93 this season. To me, it was gentle justice on the Bucs part. Just sayin…..

If I was a Carolina Panther fan, I would be extremely irritated that Carolina won the bidding war(LMFAO!!!!!) and this chump is now a Panther. He’s on TV in a clown suit complaining about his hurt feelings(feelings?!) over the Bucs coaches not calling him on the phone to fawn over him. McCoy then talks about how great the Saints are!

As far as a 300lb+ player like Vea or Suh playing RB and running up the gut for a goal line touchdown, I think that would be entertaining even if it’s doubtful McCoy would be in goal line defense.

Personally, I would rather see Barber and RoJo gain confidence and put up 200 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns running right at McCoy again and again and again.
