With the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement being passed on Sunday, it brings a number of new aspects to the league, including a 17th regular season game, an additional playoff team to each conference and $10 million dollars in additional cap space for each team in 2020, moving the salary cap from $198.2 million to $192 million.

While the Bucs’ will open the new league year with roughly $80 million in cap space, good for fourth-most in the league, they have a number of signature players that are set to become free agents, including outside linebackers Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and quarterback Jameis Winston.

At $80 million in available cap money, attempting to re-sign these players in addition to the remainder of their returning free agents while making outside free agent additions, the money is sure to dry up quick. But with the additional salary cap that is being added for the 2020 season it could potentially allow Tampa Bay to not only bring back Barrett on an extension and keep Pierre-Paul as well, but give them more flexibility should they exceed the $25 million per year mark on a quarterback, be it Winston or someone else to take the former first overall pick’s spot under center for the Bucs.
