Latest Bucs Headlines

The teams for the Pro Bowl were announced by the NFL on Tuesday night and three Bucs players have made the 2020 roster. Wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin along with outside linebacker Shaq Barrett will represent the Bucs in the 2020 Pro Bowl on January 26th.

This is Evans’ third selection to the Pro Bowl, with his other two coming in 2016 and as an alternate in 2018. However, due to Evans’ season ending hamstring injury, the chances of the Bucs’ star receiver playing in the game are unlikely. Evans ended his season with 67 catches for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. It was another milestone season for Evans, who broke the Bucs’ franchise reception record with 462 career catches, and joined Hall Of Famer Randy Moss as the only two wide receivers in history to have six-straight seasons to being their NFL career with over 1,000 receiving yards.

Godwin had a breakout season in the third year of his career on the way to his first career Pro Bowl selection, accomplishing careers bests in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Godwin left the game in the third quarter of the Bucs’ 38-17 victory over the Lions last Sunday with a hamstring injury, and his status for the rest of the season is unknown. If Godwin’s season is over, he will finish the year with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns, which are most on the team. Godwin’s receiving yards and touchdowns are both second best in the NFL though 15 weeks.

Barrett will also make the first Pro Bowl of his NFL career. Signing a one-year prove it deal with the Bucs last offseason after four years on the Broncos, Barrett has taken advantage of getting his first opportunity to be a starter and took the league by storm with a league best 16.5 sacks. On the entire year, Barrett has gone for 49 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, and one interception while earning Defensive Player Of The Month honors in September. Barrett’s 16.5 sacks tied a Bucs’ single season sack record held by Warren Sapp from the 2000 season. Barrett will have two games left with a chance to break the record.
