White was a clown. I am not defending him. He was an asshole. I am only saying that a player like him (eg Trotter) can succeed AS WHITE DID in that role in Bowles defense.

White has the Super Bowl and All-Pro and the playoff run and the 2020 stats and just the vision test, as compared to someone like SVD or even 2025 LVD. White was the emotional leader of a defense (for better and WORSE) that went the distance and that played a big part in the final outcome. .. a Super Bowl victory. Last year we ACTUALLY (ie for real) had one of the worst LBer in the league, didn't even sniff the playoffs.
Thats the difference right? to get to your opiion on White you have to discount most of those REAL things that actually happened as a mistake or luck or attributed to someone else. So . . "he didnt deserve to be an All-Pro" or "the Bucs won the SB because the Chiefs line was injured" or "it was all LVD" . . . or . . "he only got those sacks because" Bowles schemed him open? (Bowles? Thats an obvious contradiction, right?). That discounting could be correct, but the volume alone says maybe not? As does the contradiction? Maybe we won a Super Bowl with "one of the worst LBs in the league," but that "worst LB in the league" was pretty dominant in the season and even more so in the playoff run and had 12 tackles and a game sealing INT in the actual SB. Enough to be voted an All-Pro. He was also a loser and a head case, but that doesnt mean those things did NOT happen in 2020.
But, back to my actual POINT . . IF one of your arguments against White was true (White's sacks were just Bowles scheme) then that would bode well for Trotter, especially playing behind Bain and Diaby and hopeful a healthy Kancey (like White behind Suh, Vea, JPP and Barrett)

Yep. Trotter is a much more disciplined and coachable player. He’s a welcomed addition to this defense from an intellect perspective. He’s a much better get than most on here view him (shocker), we got the right guy.

Licht chose to give Reddick double digit one year contract last off season. And now he gave Robinson and Gainwell plenty of dough.
Bucs could have brought in a veteran ILB to compete with Dennis in 2025 but chose not to as they were happy with Dennis and LVD. I mean they have shown they can do that in 2026 with Anzalone and Rozeboom. The Bucs were clearly high on Dennis and given he produced for a 5th round pick which is fine.
Bottom line is that ILB is one position that draft status starts to matter a lot less and what you can do technically matters more. So that is why Trotter is not guaranteed to start and Jackson/Bullock are in the mix with Dennis and Rozeboom. It is going to be a battle royale for that other starting spot of Anzalone as Anzalone is going to have the green dot.

Trotter Jr. is a technician but he has athleticism which is his advantage too and I think people are underrating his athletic prowess now because they are conflating him with his father. I think they rotate Trotter Jr. with Rozeboom or Dennis until he has a better feel for defending the pass or getting to his landmark when the backend plays quarters coverage.
It is easy to blame CBs playing too soft in quarters coverage but the ILB last season between Dennis and LVD were not in position to contest passes in the flat or boundary which put more pressure on the Bucs CBs.
If we are going to talk about White lets remember he was able to negate a lot of the horizontal game play of the Saints in 2020 playoff game for example. And I do not think Trotter is that type of player. But where Trotter shines is being able to stack and shed and make a tackles on the inside. Rozeboom is the same way so what we thought was the prototypical LB under Bowles scheme is changing so comparing the past to now is pointless.
Rozeboom and Trotter Jr. along with Anzalone are the hard nosed in the trenches type of LBs. They are not like Dennis, White or even Kwon Alexander or LVD who are run and chase LBs that go side line to side line or downhll into a gap.

I agree that Bowles certainly seemed high on Dennis, but a team is not trying to win it all if the defense is already slipping and you go into the season with a 5th round guy who was splitting time the prior season and a 35 or 36 year LVD with bad film form the prior season BUT ESPECIALLY NOT when you have recent experience of winning it all with to ALL- PRO LBS. The 2025 Bucs collapsed because they were still trying to MAKE DO, not go all in to win it all. (Michael Jordan as aback up guard?)

Not sure how you can say that if you understand a team environment. When White is drafted 5th overall he is IMMEDIATELY the de facto leader of the defense. Just like people expect from Bain. Deserved or otherwise the draft status certainly matters.
Dennis might have emerged to play well BUT he was a 2024 split time LB who was as much elevated out of necessity as anything else, basically a rookie with ZERO credentials (draft status) . A guy like Reddick is fighting with Vea, lol he doesn't give two shits about anything Dennis would say to him. It would take multipole season of Dennis emerging to be a player like LVD before any vet was listening to him.
