Extending Baker... Holy fuck Licht. The more you think about it the dumber it gets
one of the most retarded things this franchise has done in the Licht era. Up there with not firing Bowles last year and prematurely extending him
What was more disappointing to me was the mixed emotions from the fan base. Realize you and I were in the "let's wait and let him play out this year camp" but others were pounding the table for the extension.
I dont think it could have turned out worse these first 3 games. I mean to already know it was fucked up move not even a month old is some sort of special.

Mayfield was extended - in a deal that brought the team beyond the "cash budget" Licht works under - AFTER Mayfield attended a dinner with the Glazers that Adam Schefter described as the "catalyst" for the deal.
"“[Mayfield] was at a function last week, the sponsorship dinner with the organization, sitting at the table with the owners,” Schefter said on his podcast. “You’re like, ‘Oh, what’s that about?’ Right? Your sitting with the owners at the sponsorship dinner, like that’s interesting to me. You take note of those little things and you see ultimately where they wind up.”
Mayfield's temper tantrum before camp had some questioning how the Bucs treat their star players.
as I posted in another thread, the Glazers are nothing if not reactionary.
This was Joel Glazer in April
“Obviously the quarterback is the highest-paid position on the team, rightfully so,” Glazer said. “That means that it’s going good, so if the quarterback’s making top money, then your team is probably doing well and the quarterbacks performing well. That’s obviously a key component to success. That doesn’t hurt at all to write that check, it’s something that all the teams do when you have good quarterbacks.”
key word is "good quarterback"
He was good in 2023 and 2024 and nose dived in 2025. The glass half full wanted to blame injuries, etc. as surely he couldn't have just magically turned to shit after what we saw his first 2 years
well...good thing we didn't have to extend him because he was under contract this year.
Nope...we rewarded his poor play with a $55M per year contract extension lmao.

Your overly emotional public breakup with Baker needs to be studied.
It’s like a mix of a soap opera and a teen pop song.
Entertaining as hell though.

i know you were slam dunking when the Bucs extended him. You should have stayed to your routes back in 2023 when you were dogging Baker. You dare i say....flip flopped....
Baker was not good, the line was atrocious & somehow the play calling is more predictable than Grizzard.
Yeah outside of Bucky and mini megatron Hurst the offense is pathetic. Otton dropped another pass as I typed this post too.

Care to share the links to me doing so?
Btw, you never answered my question about your lower back Baker tatoo coverup.
Did you do something with Julio Jones being AB 2.0?
I'm still a Baker fan for the record. I like him... He's easy to root for... He's in a slump and now he's hurt.
He's a perfect example of a QB that simply needs the right environment to succeed. Just like Darnold and plenty of other QBs.
There's only like 6 QBs that can win despite the system and even then it's iffy.
If we hadn't extended him and let him play for his contract we'd have a full season to evaluate.
We may have had to pay 5m more per season but we'd be doing it at market value.
Instead we bet on the come to risk 20m more per year to save 5m more per year.
I'm not gonna piss on Baker because he wanted to get paid I'm gonna piss on management for giving into it.
Baker's bullshit tempertanturm not withstanding, he's still a great leader and with competent scheme and coaching (at a more reasonable deal) I'd be all in on him.
But the die it has cast and the first one now will later be last...
It's possible that oline sucks and baker sucks. I vote for that option right now.

it’s the Philadelphia fan in me. I’ll be a baker fan again the next time we win a game and he plays well contributing to the win
that last happened October 2025

Baker is trying to be a hero. It worked for the first 6 games last year as the line got blown up but now it doesn't because teams know he'll abandon and run

And he's off on his throws when he does have time. Mentally he's fd right now. Maybe some time away will be good for him. He needs to be smarter about how he plays or he will get killed and at the least demoted to back up role in this league.
