“The 49ers deal with WR Mike Evans is a 3-year contract that's worth $42.4M with $16.3M guaranteed.

There are incentives where he could earn way more”

———————-

This just shows you how he thought of Todd and this staff.

no mention of baker, eh?

$14 million a year. That hurts

Him going off on the sidelines screaming "3rd and 28" isn't an indictment of Baker.

Now, run along and get ready for that statue ceremony you're so giddy about.

On the engraving, it can read, "The only HC to have a losing season with Tom Brady and the HC that chased away the greatest offensive player in franchise history"

I don't think the dry weather will help his hammy. There is a reason the niners year in year out are always decimated by injury.

I shed a tear.

I actually shed a tear.

I remember when he was drafted, Licht said, "A lot of people thought Manziel was the reason for that team's success...We felt like...He wasn't."

God damn it, is...is it okay to cry?

Evans leaving is an indictment of Bowles but it's also an indictment of Licht, the Glazers, and Mayfield

1 - Bowles being a shit head coach, everyone can see that except Licht and the Glazers

2 - Jason Licht, let's face it, getting lucky on a few draft picks (Evans, Godwin, Wirfs, AWJ, etc) and football gods (Tom Brady) but otherwise a very pedestrian GM.  I mean look at the mid moves we've made so far this off-season, hardly needle movers. We are no longer the "favorites" of the shitty NFC South and he as the roster constructor doesn't get a free pass.  Evans saw the talent on the 49ers and the talent on the Bucs and it's not even close

3 - The Glazers - i mean....these are the assholes that decided to keep Todd Bowles after the locker room quit on him

4 - Baker Mayfield.  I mean, Brady was average in his last year, you think Evans leaves Tom? No way.  Brock Purdy is likely in Baker Mayfield tier of QBs so it's not like Evans left for a pure fire upgrade.

and...i think part of it could be his life after football, like i said, where he wants to build a brand.  Nobody knows anyone in Tampa and Mike didnt start getting HoF chatter outside of Tampa until Tom Brady joined.  The current cast in Tampa isn't changing the national view of Tampa Bay like Brady did; so Evans going to a city that has NBA, events, etc. not to mention a team that will be competing for a championship.  He's building post NFL options

If the contract details are as reported (don't see why they are not) then yes its really an unavoidable indictment of the organization to have your HOF player leave as Evans left.

Plenty of blame to go around though and some of it the natural product of success e.g., multiple $20 million players, but definitely true that a team that quit in 2025 is in even greater peril NOW that the star leader quit before 2026. Doesn't mean they cant overcome it, but often times this kind of transition is occurring with NEW leadership so will be interesting to see it play out.

Yup. Coen's success in Jacksonville was a pretty big one too.

Glazers did not read the room. Now Evans is gone. Sad day for buc fans.

They might go the opposite direction. LOL. In fact, things like the Evans departure might explain Bowles being here.

Aside from someone like Monken there were not many coaches who would have looked at the Bucs job as a great job given the rebuild that has to take place AND dealing with aging veterans like Evans and LVD.  As much as it sucks to lose Evans, particularly for competitiveness reasons, its been the simple reality that the Bucs are in transition.  They need to move on from players like LVD and even Vea and Evans  and Dean and maybe even AWJ. This was the not so subtle point of a recent FAB 5 that focused on the Bucs number of $20 million contracts.

They also have to do this transition while having MISSED on a number of 1st round picks that would have been the cornerstones of the team in 2025 and 2026. Since the 2019 draft only Wirfs is productive.  |He is fantastic, but if you at least have Kancey as a "?" that means five or 6 years of little return from PREMIUM picks. and there is no top 10 first round pick to run with

That scenario is hardly a big recruiting pitch to a guy like Kubiak, for example, who is choosing the Raiders because its Brady and a known rebuild and a STORIED franchise. Bowles is on the back end of a contract and wants the job even with the obvious transition

bit of a Catch-22 at the moment

One doesn't happen without the other. It ends and starts with the incompetence of Todd bowles. Tampa was definitely the best team in the nfc south the past 3 to 5 years. The rest of the division was far behind. Last year they caught up when the team was way out in front. None of those teams had any business of winning the division. Carolina looked so bad for most of the year. The fact that they missed the playoffs and did so in a fashion that loudly spoke to their weaknesses. They had those weaknesses for the past 2 or 3 years. Did nothing. Rolling with the same is asking for more of the same. Tampa could have easily made a switch this year and it would improve the team just from moving on from bowles. I honestly think I could have coached that team some wins they lost last year. Some fans probably feel like they could have coached the team to the super bowl the second year of Brady here. The blame on the players is ridiculous. They deserve some but bowles and Licht deserve the most and hold the accountability. We do this in other professions. The blame usually starts and ends with the people at the top. This is definitely a case with the bucs. Totally mismanaged opportunity.
