there being a flood of talent next year in the draft

If that "flood" includes any talk about Arch Manning being a viable NFL QB prospect than is all a load of crap.  Arch is so average to below average as a college QB AND he's had EVERY advantage known to man, I just don't see what the hype is about this guy.

Let's stay with what we know.

I'm on board with tanking for Arch now.

It's funny how many heads this flew over.

Interesting rankings the last 6 games of the Season.

Also include the infamous last 11 games as well as full season which includes the MVP short lived run.

what's interesting is that his last 6 games often rank higher than the last 11 games in which he suffered the injury right before the last 6 games.

Summary:  Baker's decline in play started long before the Rams game injury.  His INTs were the only notable item that was worse in the final 6 games compared to the final 11.

Nobody is arguing that Baker was not an MVP candidate in the 5-1 start.  Bucs were #1 in power rankings and the Bake Show was a national story.  But he then played "Ehh" in the Bucs 1-4 stretch to follow before the "please sweet baby jesus let his regression be that injury in the Rams game" we are all banking on.

and i will admit i am wrong when the Bucs brass sign him to an extension before the season.  Otherwise, they clearly are hesitant given the medicore play

Friendly reminder that Baker carried this team, was an MVP front runner, and beat the champs in Seattle before the injury.

I'm gun shy on paying him but to act like last season was a bad year for him will never not be funny to me.

if he had a good year, he would have been extended a couple months ago

it was such a lackluster finish that the Bucs brass is a bit gun shy as you say

Hopefully it's the "injury" as many are suggesting....but wouldn't it be great to prove that point.

Which unit is most to blame for the Bucs 2-4 finish against 6 teams they were favored against - scores were 20-17 (W), 24-20 (L), 29-28(L), 23-20 (L), 20-17(L) and 16-14 (W)

when asking Chat GBT, they said a common benchmark is a defense does its job if they hold opponents to under 20 points, where an offense does it's job scoring more than 21-24 points. So it looks like the offense did their job once, the defense did their job twice.  In the case of 24-20, AI said "the defense allowed a manageable total" but the "offense failed to produce enough scoring drives to wins, so most analyst would lean towards blaming the offense for a 24-20 loss. Considering we also lost 23-20 and 20-17, one would suggest that falls in that bucket too

So now that we agree that offense was more to blame for collapse, lets find out who the leader of the offe....oh it's the quarterback.  Chat GBT confirmed.

Baker deserves criticism and it's a good thing.  Let him prove himself again

I'm a little gun shy to pay but it isn't due to last year's performance it's due to his style of play (injuries) and there being a flood of talent next year in the draft so we have leverage via supply and demand.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

But, did you Chat GBT it?

Trolling just to troll?  Baker was mid at best for majority of the season and it was in consecutive weeks so not really cherry picking just explaining the collaspe

Bucs defense that final 6 games - top 6 in lowest points allowed over that span...and their D was shit. Offense managed to be worse

The Jets don't seem to be in tank mode.  They took Cooper and Sadiq in round 1 and signed Geno to start so they are looking at going all out.  On defense Glenn went all out and aggressively signed Onyemata, Davis, Ossai, Wright and traded for Fitzpatrick and Sweat. And drafted Bailey, Darnell Jackson and Ponds.

Dolphins on the other hand have Atwell and Tolbert as the "feature" WRs.  With drafted players Bell, Douglas and Coleman Jr bringing the rear. They took Proctor in round 1 and they have Malik Willis as QB1.   In fairness their defense looks to be potent with picking up Uche, drafting Moore, signing Ojabo and Kyle Lous and Rodriguez as the future LB duo with Dodson and Brooks in front of them.   They drafted Chris Johnson in round 1 so they have a lot more than one would think defensively.

If a team that tanks it will probably be a team that unexpectedly underpeforms and has a shot at Arch IMO.

Geno Smith and Malik Willis.....tank mode

EDIT:

Said another way, who was the starting QB for the Raiders last year when they managed to get #1 pick last year :)

There it is.

Baker rebounds and he is our guy

but if you think if he replicates last year, Bucs have a losing record, new head coach, and he is a pending free agent; you best believe our draft position and offensive minded head coach we hire will have a say in who he wants our QB to be.

in the everything goes right - Baker returns to top 10 form, Bucs have double digit wins, and Baker is resigned to a 4,5 year deal in the $200-$250 range

Bucs were 3-8 in those last 11 games

Not if you extrapolate his Week One results.

And, I even Chat GBT’d it.

Like I said, cherry picking stats like you do is fun.

i gave you full year results too, so even with his MVP bid in the first month and a half, he ranked 18th in passer rating.  Maybe good enough for you, but disappointing to me

I'm not sure what the argument is here. Baker played much better in the beginning of the year. He was out of his mind the first six games, and a legit MVP contender. Five of those six games, he had a QB rating over 98.0.  He didn't play as well after that. Over the next 11 games, he only had one game over a QB rating of 98.0. Overall, it was his worse year as a Buccaneer.

Where is any of that controversial?

i am not sure.

I'm one of Bakers biggest supporters.

Look back to 2023 season when Bucs were at like 4-6 and i was in the Baker Bro camp but many, were clamoring for Kyle Trask.  Obviously Baker gave us the best chance to win.  The expectations were low for that Buccaneers team given the "post Brady years expectation." He shattered expectations and earned himself a 3 year, 100M deal.

Baker had Hall of Famer type vibes during the 2024 season and was a damn bargain for this 3 year, 100M deal.  We got ourselves "the Dude" and he will be our QB for the foreseeable future

First 6 games of 2025 - Holy Hell....dude is MVP caliber.  5-1.  Can we make the Superbowl with this team?  Hell yeah.

Then the fall off started in that Detroit game and well before this "hang our hat on it Rams injury game"

I think the argument may be that i am more hesitant now given the drop off in play and not fully attributing it to all the excuses - poor OC, injuries to the offensive line, Baker hurt, etc.  I'd like to see Baker play out his contract and earn that new contract in 2027.  I feel there is very little downside to waiting - 1) Baker could get hurt 2) Baker could repeat last year and not have the excuses 3) Baker could play fuckin lights out and given where the market value is for QBs, he is looking at MAX 55M per year.  4)  Baker could play to 2023 levels, so not quite lights out but still better than the alternative, well...then he is looking at 50M per year.

so the argument seems to be that many posters here want to sign him now where i am suggesting it's prudent to wait given as you suggest, he had his worst year as a Buccaneer and even had some Cleveland years that some could argue were better.

You’re so completely and utterly full of shit.

By your own admission, you were “one more loss away” from wanting to kick the tires on Trask.

Again, you might be the biggest flip-flopping fair weather fan posting on these boards.
