he didnt even counter
the fact remains, the contract offer was so bad, they didnt counter
definitely YOUR truth
I laid all that out before
why didnt they counter? what is your truth, sorry i may have missed
i posted it somewhere else but even Mayfield refers to offers (plural) so unless you think the Bucs are negotiating against themselves they did counter, talk etc. The comment you're referring to was in June
and just like that . . .
"“They did go back and forth. Like Baker Mayfield and his camp did respond to the Buccaneers’ two-year offer with their own two-year proposal as well,” Garafolo told The Rich Eisen Show yesterday.
“So it’s not like they said, ‘We are adamantly opposed to a two-year extension.’ It’s just once those numbers started to go back and forth, they couldn’t get to an agreement on total money and guarantees.”
so DH has been saying $100M guaranteed...how much more could he want on a 2 year deal!
Well, I cant speak for DH but the point he was making to you is pretty spot on because its not like Mayfield would decline a 2 year $250 million fully guaranteed contract because he wanted a five year $50 million contract? Security is most in fully guaranteed funds, not in the time of the contract, particularly if the back end is voidable, obviously
And the point that I was making in the earlier "no counter" post was that there is always a big difference between public pronouncements by players and teama and what is actually happening in the background. Clearly they have been negotiating. Even Mayfield suggested as much, if you looked closely at the quotes.
yeah baker would have accepted a 2year, $250M deal. i agree. whats the point there?
Players can be unreasonable, make mistakes. Its not always the team. We all just saw the Vea deal work out with a compromise.
From my perspective, most here focus on the team when it comes to negotiations because they want the player and/or the best performance from the "happy" players, but if you just look at Licht's track record its just as likely that some (or all) of the fault for "no deal" lies with Mayfield. In fact, the Garafalo report almost confirms that because Garafalo was also the one who reported the "Baker unhappy" part earlier.
Mayfield's closest friend is Wirfs. Timing-wise, Mayfield's negotiations were progressing just like Wirfs. Wirfs and the Bucs agreed on an extension at the fifth training camp practice, not before training camp. Mayfield knows that. He's Wirf's best buddy.
But, he still put out his fake TC deadline? And then later the team came out with the "strong offer" comment. And now, a report that Mayfield's camp IS/WAS actually considering a 2 year deal (even as Mayfield was suggesting publicly it was about the term, love the city etc. He's never going to say "its because I want more money" lmao
So they have been negotiating, there were offers and counters etc, they just differ on $ AT THE MOMENT. And maybe Mayfield prematurely let loose his "all about ball" nonsense instead of just saying "it will all take care of itself" or "talk to may agent" etc. Players make mistakes, can be unreasonable too. IT USUALLY WORKS OUT.
