Godwin hasn't shown he can return to the level of wideout he was before he got his leg snapped in half and I am not sure he will. Hurst can fill the X-position as a receiver and he has a season to grow. That is a good thing.
Godwin will most likely be outright released next offseason, if not traded before this season’s deadline (or at least he should).
That would move Egbuka into the slot, JMac outside and Hurst to the X.
Don’t hate the player. Though, would’ve preferred Pegnon. He was EASILY the BPA there, and at a position of need.
And he would have provided key depth in the interior. Our line would be fairly shored up.
Wirfs/Pregnon/Barton/Mauch/Goedeke
Breadson for depth
I'm very happy with that
Small school prospects typically mean they are a project. I don't think he will see the field much this year.
Hope I'm wrong... Would be great if he's a red zone jump ball threat. Would like to know if he can block well with that frame. I could be overreacting but I just see this as a next year player pick
Its what I thought as well. I think they knew this offense, and this QB, needed a big X option. Kid’s tape (conceding it’s against mostly lesser competition - but that Senior Bowl performance demonstrated it wasn’t all because of lesser competition), shows some skill at the fade ball and high-pointing. I think he has talent for the X position, and it was available at the pick…but he’s going to need some time.Don’t put unrealistic expectations on him.
Agreed.
Not saying he’s a bad player or anything, but constant ME comparisons are wild.
My guess is he’ll get slowly weened in throughout the season, then play a much bigger role once they cut bait with Godwin after this season.
Maybe some traits are there, but the comparisons to M1K3 and “a faster Larry Fitzgerald” were a bit wild for me, too.
Loved the pick though, somebody did their homework and weren’t afraid to make a case for Ted Hurst there. I think we got him a round lower than he was graded.
Maybe that makes up for the Keionte Scott pick where picked him a round higher than he was graded…but I’m guessing the near miss of J-Rod lit a fire under them to land the last LB that could be of some additional use.
Scott was considered a 2nd/3rd rounder so landing him in the 4th was just as big of win as Bain in the mid first. The thing with Hurst is that he isn't limited to the boundary as he can play in the slot. So the Bucs can really rotate WRs and mix things up to the point defenses can't adjust quickly enough as they have five guys that can play slot now and if you throw in K. Johnson that makes six.

He's going to have to adjust to the speed and tenacity that is totally different than what he had at his level. But I get the idea and hope it works.
"I love Ted Hurst,” an NFL receiver coach told me of the 6-3-plus 206-pounder with 4.42 speed and an 11-3 broad jump. “I would say he’s the biggest sleeper in the draft, but he blew up like a month ago.”
