Tough spot for Bucs. Dudes shelf life expiring but defense will struggle mightily without him this year

Trade him.

Try and get as much draft capital as you possibly can.

Can't trade him the cap hit would be too much. Guess we'll see how this all shakes out now once camp kicks off... Does he sit out?

Make him play it out.  He will want to ball it out to get a big contract. Likely his last big season. He will go to a new team while on the wrong side of 30 and Tampa gets a compensatory pick.  I doubt he is dumb enough to sit out. There is zero benefit to not getting paid and getting another year older. Tampa would also have his 2027 rights if he sits out while healthy.

It actually wouldn't be too terrible, and might be the best scenario..I love Vita and would hate to see him go, but if you could get some decent draft capital for him then his dead cap hit for this year would be $ $6,478,460, with a cap savings of $15,716,000... There would also be no dead cap carry over to next year because his unpaid bonuses would accelerate to this year...If he did play out this contract and wasn't resigned he'd still carry a 2.284M dead cap next year in void years

Sort of biting the bullet or taking their medicine, I guess.

@bucsbits I think unless Godwin explodes this year with over 1k and a lot of TDs he and probably Vea are gone next year ( especially with how he must feel he's being treated this year having now requested a trade )..  I get it's part of the agent playbook, but Vea hasnt typically been one to raise a stink in the past

Agreed...I think a little bit of both honestly...It definitly is an unexpected twist going into camp, and it would cause some of these younger unproved guys to galvanize and either take on a bigger role or be replaced next year...Sadly I think the best compensation might come from the Raiders in the form of a 3rd or 4th rounder, and maybe a late pick or pick swap (unless they add a performance incentive in the trade package)..It'd suck to lose him, but at least we'd get something for him.

Welp atleast Bowles and company have an excuse for 2026 now. Just hope we don’t extend him after the 6-11 season with such an excuse!

You probably need to trade him since he will be gone anyway after this season. It just won't be a ton or like a first rounder. Also this teams not really going anywhere without him so you probably are getting a decent pick next year. I think it's gonna be an ugly season. Hopefully bowles is gone.
