Agreed...I think a little bit of both honestly...It definitly is an unexpected twist going into camp, and it would cause some of these younger unproved guys to galvanize and either take on a bigger role or be replaced next year...Sadly I think the best compensation might come from the Raiders in the form of a 3rd or 4th rounder, and maybe a late pick or pick swap (unless they add a performance incentive in the trade package)..It'd suck to lose him, but at least we'd get something for him.

A younger player who can play would be ideal. Picks are usually unknown. A contender wouldn't mind vea to be swapped with a younger player who doesn't help them as much as helps us.

Defense won't be all that great without him. Then again they won't be all that great with him because we have bowles. It's not a bad idea to move on because he likely cost a lot and we won't be contending again until we switch the hc at the very least. I have a similar opinion that I had with Mike Evans let him chase a ring and whatever else he wants. Vea wants to get paid let him go get paid. I'm not sure he has more than 2 or 3 years left in him and if you think we're contending during that time sure pay him but I dont think we will be as long as magoo is here.
We don't need to pay him. Having a guy who is on the wrong side of 30 in a physical position that will take its toll the longer he's out there is the wrong move. Trade him or force him to play. I do not envision him sitting out because he would basically flush the toilet on any larger contract by sitting out and aging another year.
As far as why he is requesting a trade, my belief is it's twofold. First, he wanted a contract done before training camp. That didn't happen and that is on Licht and the Glazers - and I actually agree with them. Second, he knows this team is DOA with Turd Bowels still at the helm and just the same as Evans leaving to a real contender, Vea is probably looking for something close to the same (even though he mentioned the Raiders).

You have to wonder what direction the Bucs are headed if they don't want to pay these veterans Mayfield and Vea. Are they really committed to making a run this year? On the other hand, although I fully understand where Vea is coming from, he is coming to the point in his career where the injuries will start to pile up.
I've said previously that other than Mayfield Vea is the player who would be missed the most if they weren't there. The Bowles defense starts with that push up front and taking away the running game first. Vea is the centerpiece. When he's gone, whether he's traded, injured or just over the hill, he will be sorely missed.

No doubt, especially with interior pass rush. But, just like Evans a trade would be good for HIM and, at least in the long run, good for the Bucs. Or, maybe better expressed as betetr than giving a long term deal to a 31 year old interior lineman.
Makes the Mayfield deal slightly more likely (for the optics) to happen now, but will be interesting to see what happens down the road with Godwin especially if Egbuka continues to excel
