Evans would never say it publicly (I don't think) but Bowles and the lack of defensive discipline this team exhibited last season that directly contributed to losses in games the offense did enough to actually win 100% had something to do with his decision. He knows going to SF with established veteran players and a serious head coach that type of thing will not happen. This team will be lucky to be a 6 win team next year.

The other interesting thing to me about Evans going to SF with all those players Knees mentioned is none of them seem to be able to stay on the field for an entire season. It's like a team of part-timers. If all of those dudes stay on the field next season, SF has to be a favorite. That is very doubtful given history.

Correct.  If Evans can stay healthy, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him close to career highs in receptions and yards.

Shanahan is better than McVay, Reid, Coen from a scheme perspective and adjusting to the strengths of the skill he has available to him.

Tampa on offense last season played well below its potential.  And oddly played better when Evans, Godwin, and Wirfs, Mauch, and Kieft were on the sidelines.

SF would be the #1 destination for anyone in Mike’s shoes looking to go out with some production. If he had left Tampa for say, the Browns, you’d have a much better argument for him leaving due to Bowles.  He wants to eat, Shanahan has a glowing history of stacking yards and TDs.

If posters want to take time to shit all over Bowles based on this, please do it.  And maybe 10 short months from now you will all be vindicated as Tampa finishes 6-11 and Bowles is fired but I tend to think Robinson, health, and a player from this upcoming draft will put us in position to win more than we lose.

mean Mike Evans having absolutely no faith in the team kind of tells you all you need to know if you take the blinders off...

Mike Evans is at a selfish part of his career, and quite frankly he’s earned that.  Tampa’s WR room is too talented to have it go through an aging super star.  He didn’t leave because of Bowles, he left because he can be the receiving bell cow in San Fran and he can’t in Tampa.

BULLSHIT. Believe what you want to believe. 3rd and 28 said it all. No faith in Bowles, no faith in his defensive teammates.

leading Wide Receiver yards with 49ers

2025 - Jauan Jennings 643

2024 - Jauan Jennings 975

2023 - Brandon Aiyuk 1,342

2022 - Brandon Aiyuk 1,015

2021 - Deebo Samuel - 1,405

2020 - Brandon Aiyuk - 748

i dont know man

the argument of Mike wanting to pad stats on a superbowl contender with a solid defense, one of the best receiving backs in NFL history, and a top 10 tight end all time(albeit rehabbing an injury to start year) doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

you dont think any part of his decision had to do with thinking the Bucs had no chance at winning?  that he lost faith in the teams direction?  Bucs offered him more money, Mike led the team in targets per game played last year, just got a new offensive coordinator and he has already established report with Baker previously.  I'd argue Tampa would clearly be the better choice to pad the stats.  You dont think Mike is the clear #1 on this team?

i could argue we wanted to build his brand for life after football as to why he chose San Fran but part of that would be because they would be relevant and in playoffs where Bucs are forgotten in the NFC South.  I mean struggling to win the worst division in football each year is the very definition of "pretender"

Part of building a HOF resume is post season play.  So for ME this was an easy choice.

what's interesting is that Mike Evans wasn't even a thought in terms of national recognition until Tom Brady joined Tampa.

So i would think the fact that he's stand up guy, won a superbowl with Tom Brady (feel that holds some weight), has top 20 all time receiving yardage, and top 10 all time receiving TDs; the guy is a Hall of Famer already.

Winning another Superbowl with San Fran at call it a modest 1,000 yard season or less; i dont see how that adds to his resume as opposed to getting 1,000 yards with Tampa and losing in first round of playoffs.

Mike wanted to change, believe some of it was to build his brand post NFL life, but he definitely is ring chasing unlike some other posters like "the knees" claiming he is chasing stats.

His best opportunity to pad stats and contract earnings was in Tampa; but he is thinking of building his brand and that comes with a bigger market and a better team. I am just not sure it will play out like he envisioned.

So, you don’t see how winning another ring, as opposed to not winning another ring, adds to his resume?

Jesus…smh.

can't say it made much of a difference for LeSean McCoy who went ring chasing (top 25 all time rushing leaders)

How about Hines Ward with 12,000 + receiving yards and 2 rings (top 31 all time receiving leaders)

Evans is already in the Hall of Fame; winning another superbowl (which i agree has better odds with SF then TB) hardly moves the needle.  If anything, i think padding his stats would mean more....and i think he had a better chance to do that in Tampa with the shittier defense and clear #1; in SF Kittle and CMAC will eat into his targets.

said another way Donkey Hunter...im suggesting the following would be better for Evans HOF resume

A year in which he surpasses 1,000 yards, 10 TDs and misses the playoffs

versus

gets 750 yards, 3 TDs and wins Super Bowl.

Now grant it, Evans ego thinks he can do the 1,000 and win it all but just suggesting, if you had to pick one, i'm arguing the 1,000 yards is better for him

Also, Tampa has won 2 super bowls since the 49ers have won their last one.  So, let’s not crown them just yet.

let's play a game - TB or SF

Better head coach?

Better offensive play caller?

More play makers on defense?

Better record last year?

better record since 2022?

more playoff wins since 2022?

i'm with you that SF isn't a Super Bowl contender power house. but they certainly have better odds than Tampa Bay

Lolz

i mean you laugh but CMAC had 102 receptions on 129 targets last year.  If you are suggesting that he isn't option 1 between carries and receptions, you must not know that CMAC stands for Christian McCaffery

Kittle, injured i know, had the third most targets last year but 2nd most targets in 2023 and 2024. He is targeting an early NFL Season return but let's say he misses half the season, did Mike really sign a multi year deal thinking "Yeah with Kittle out 2 months, i'll surely get alot of targets"

Mike is the #1 in SF, but he was also the clear #1 in TB; you may not think that because of "potential" but you will realize it by Halloween 2026
