Part of building a HOF resume is post season play.  So for ME this was an easy choice.

Agree

from a relative small pool of choices two. Great for Evans. I hope he kills it

but he was also the clear #1 in TB;

This just isn’t true.  Don’t know how to say it any clearer.  He was one of 4 options in Tampa, he’s one of two options in SF.

That is just facts.

McMillan and Egbuka averaged more than 14 yards a reception last season

Evans averaged just over 12 yards a recepton

Godwin was almost 11 yards a reception

Saying Evans is the clear #1 in Tampa wouldn’t have been the case anymore here in Tampa.

in the games Mike Evans played last year, who led the team in targets during those games?

The 49ers have not had a WR that can win downfield on go routes in ages so having ME helps them big time.  Shanahan is known for a lot of short routes, but with posts and go routes ME will do well in that regard.

this is a fascinating question especially if you consider it from Evans perspective toward 2026. I don't know which games he led in tgts in 2025 but the Bucs are probably only .500 in his 2025 games.

I think if you go back to Coen it's Godwin featured until he gets injured. Godwin was on a record breaking pace. Much to Evans' credit when Godwin went down Evans successfully altered hus typical play to fill the void. He went from his typical deep threat to catching midlevel in routes and other chain moving routes that were really where Godwin was #1

when you consider that change and the emergence of Egbuka in Tampa the 49ers makes sense because great OC, Purdue great at those in routes and no Godwin or Egbuka to eat targets. And of course a great organization too.

I hope Evans kills it.

n the games Mike Evans played last year, who led the team in targets during those games?

So many reasons for this outside of him being the X.

We all want Evans to succeed.  But to think that he would have the same or even close to the same targets in Tampa with this WR room vs SF is just being intellectually dishonest.

One could have made the argument a couple of weeks ago that Tampa was better off both short and long term not moving forward with Mike.  From a pure football sense, re-signing an aging WR who has trouble staying on the field when you have the WR room Tampa has, ISN’T A SMART DECISION.

I hope Mike kills it in SF.  Of all the heritage clubs in football San Fransisco has done it the right way consistently. He makes sense there.

Just one off the top of my head… You’re a historian…remember a few months back when the idea of Mike owning the record for 1000 yard seasons in a row was a reality?   Do you think that was a consideration at all when Baker was making decisions on whom to throw to???

Speaking of staying on the field.

How many games has Godwin and MacMillan missed the past few seasons?

Neither of them were free agents this offseason.

Your "so many reasons" why the #1 WR received the most targets is only one reason? And that one boils down to one target at the end of one game in 2024?

Thanks for answering.

and both had contact injuries only.  Evans may go on to light it up as an outside deep threat like he's been all his career. He might go on to light it up as the inside receiver he has become. He might go the entire season in 2026 without a hamstring injury. But the 49ers realized themselves that those are all risks and not certainties and the reality will probably be in between.  That's both why they took him and why he was reportedly their third choice.

it's real football. Not fanboy Madden.  Hope he hits gold with the move. Zero shame in him for following his own dream.

Was for 2025 as well.

Also, in digging deeper, even when he was on the field he wasn’t the most targeted receiver on the team.

I realize you like showing off your clown shoes. You did, at least, fool your fellow leghumper.

Well done.
