I cant imagine Bowles going Dungy-esque "Tampa 2," but maybe. I just think basic realism says a defensive coach on the hot seat is going to double down on his core beliefs and what has worked for him in the past ("#7 in scoring, the only stats that matters").
Basic realism says the shortest route back to the playoffs is a better offense, better special teams and even a marginal improvement in defense. The Bucs were the 20th ranked defense last season (opponent PPG). If you take away almost a FG gifted every game by ST, the defense is actually 10th (and to be fair they were horrible, especially down the stretch). So, there is an easy way to get better. You just have to get ST to NEUTRAL and since the offense was a full TD and XP worse in 2025 then in 2024, just some points back there.
Bowles as HC is probably counting more on basic improvement from the offense and ST, such that even marginal improvement with the defense should get you into playoff ball. Not suggesting he is not trying to improve the defense more than that. Obviously, big changes in personnel etc. Only suggesting that a NEW head coach probably takes the same approach: just get basic, entry-level competent special teams and a healthy and performing offense and even a defense that just tries hard for 17 games (lol) and you have a playoff team in this division.

I don’t know what a “come to Jesus moment” means, but it seems more accurate to say he just needs to get his hammy healed up so that he can run and play CB. It’s not exactly a reason to point a finger at the guy. I just hope he can get healthy enough to be able to use his talents, which are substantial. No reason to think the guy isn’t doing everything in his power to get himself ready. I wish him well, cuz we need him to pan out.
